Gorden Brown for Prime Minister?

Well its big news, Tony Blair has been in talks with Gordon Brown to hand over the reins. There are some other people who could take up the post but I am hoping Gordon Brown does. As a low income family I do feel that Gordon Brown has his finger on the pulse. what does everyone else think?

what would be the big difference between him and Blair though? he has described himself many times in the past as wanting to continue Blair's policies etc which is bad news as far as I am concerned.

very true about Bush and all.......but if Conservatives got in then us low income and lone parent famillies would suffer terribly. I do realise that there is more to the goverment than low income famillies etc.. but if Conservative got in again I do feel we would loose even more.

yes I do agree with you on that. Believe me I am no Tory voter! FWIW I also think employment laws are far far better and workers' rights more protected now than they ever would be under conservative government.

What concerns me more though is foreign policy and in particular these two (linked) issues: Britain's cowtowing to the US over everything, and Britain's spineless collusion with Israel and the US in the sustained oppression of Palestine. But that is another story!!!

I wonder what Brown would do in relation to the above that is significantly different from Tony.

you are probably right about the Tories - Cameron can spin all he likes but he hasn't actually come out with any policies yet. If he can run a Tory government without hammering the poor, he'll be unique.

Mind you, don't like Blair or Mr 'privatise the NHS and the London Underground' Brown either. Old labour my a*se.

Although the sight of Tony deluged under all those letters of resignation (and trying to sack people retrospectively) is entertaining).

I totally understand concerns, but to go back to a tory goverment and also the fact that they are not keen on poorer famillies and benefits scares the bejesus out of me.

There was a letter in the Independent the other day which echoed my feelings - along the lines of 'Why would we want a man who's let some other guy run rings round him for the last 10 years to be Prime Minister?' IMO, he hasn't even been able to get the job he so covets, so what hope international negotiations? Also quite a lot of his policies really upset me. I do understand where you're coming from, horsecrazy, and I don't think Cameron or Ming would be any better, but I just can't see Gordon Brown as a success story.
