I wonder what Mumsnetters think of this scandal as it appears that the allegations might have some justification. I find it shocking that a school can go from outstanding to inadequate in a space of two years. It really shows how flawed OFSTED inspections either were or have become.

I'm reading it now and it's pretty shocking.

I think that no-notice Ofsted inspections are the way forward for ALL schools. I appreciate that schools don't get a lot of notice but it's still time for them to give a false picture.

Two thoughts from me;

Given so much notice of an inspection, I agree that a school can show what it wants to show during a visit - and apparently did so, without the undercurrent of ‘instruction’ over education.

As usual, this as seen as an anti Islamic government attack, when there are no Islamist threats even thought of, only some conformity to the mixed State Sector education system.

I think all inspections should take place randomly and without warning.
I work in the NHS and the preparation for a recent CQC inspection was a major operation.
What is the point of a quality inspection if the state of the establishment during the inspection bears no resemblance to what happens during the other 50 weeks of the year?
I will wait to hear more about the state of affairs in Birmingham.

3littlefrogs did you have notice before the CQC arrived? You You say it was a major operation, it's the same for schools.

Schools currently get less than 24 hours notice (usually 12 noon before the day they they arrive) this is to prepare logistically more than anything. Print info, get a timetable set up, prepare a room for them to be based in etc etc

The amount of paperwork they require is ridiculous.

Re Birmingham not surprised and even less surprised it took OFSTED this long to notice. Powerful governors is a double edged sword.

The majority of faith school are state funded (in all the various and complicated ways they can be funded).

Our education system(s) must be one of the most racist in the world and the children they discrimate against are the truly multicultural UK children like mine. Hilarious given that our governments (all of them) love to boast about our multicultural credentials.
