written paedophilia a criminal offence

BBC news says that today in the queen speech the following was announced: Tougher powers to seize the assets of crime bosses, tackle cyber crime and make possession of written paedophilia a criminal offence

Can anyone explain what this means? I was actually quite taken aback to read this - what does written paedophillia mean, and does it mean a gagging order for fiction, erotic manage schoolgirl fiction, etc on the subject, or is it something much more obvious?

Of course, like any parent, I find paedophillia abhorent, but just wondered if this law is actually a terrible step towards losing freedom of speech - as in, we can write about a murder, but would texts like Lolita now be illegal?

Better get rid if my copy of Lolita then...

The logical side of me is certain that it's not referring to literature and to something that is obviously a crime, but I can't see exactly what they do mean...

No, I don't know what it means either.

What about all those fourteen year olds writing erotic Harry Potter fan fiction?

FatalCabbage · 04/06/2014 16:36

There are some books on eg Amazon which are effectively "How To Groom Children" manuals. I'm pretty sure that's what they're directly targeting and a bit more straightforward to police than old incitement legislation.

What about a history book that documents Henry VIII's failure to impregnate Kitty Howard (15)? or Romeo and Juliet (14)? The Bible? The Koran?

More holes than Swiss cheese.

Ahh - Fatal Cabbage that sounds more like what this law is about then, but your right, there seem to be a lot of texts that come under this frame that we would actually want to keep for literary value...

Cardinal -the harry potty erotic fiction must have escaped my attention!
