Thank goodness. She refused to renounce Christianity, gave birth shackled in a filthy jail and was sentenced to hang for apostasy against Islam, despite never having been muslim. www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-africa-27651483

Really great news!
Very few new story's shock me anymore but this one really did.

PartialFancy · 31/05/2014 17:56

Grin Marvellous!

Although SadAngrySad that this state of affairs exists at all.

OneStepCloser · 31/05/2014 17:57

I really hope they mean it, it will be such good news, that poor woman and her family they have been through actual hell.

Shop · 31/05/2014 17:57

Fantastic news!

OrangeMochaFrappucino · 31/05/2014 18:03

That's amazing news and I am so glad to hear it - this story has been on my mind such a lot and it's so good to hear positive news. However, nothing will ever compensate for what this family has been put through.

BumWad · 31/05/2014 18:05

Thank goodness for that

Cocolepew · 31/05/2014 18:07

Fantastic news!

PenelopeChipShop · 31/05/2014 18:12

Thank goodness! I signed the petition. I just kept thinking the people they were really punishing would be her children. Imagine being given two years to breastfeed your baby only to know they would be mourning you on their second birthday. It doesn't bear thinking about.

Hassled · 31/05/2014 18:19

Excellent news :)

AliceDoesntLiveHereAnymore · 31/05/2014 18:23

So glad to see this.

edamsavestheday · 31/05/2014 18:30

That's wonderful news and I hope it will cause the authorities in Sudan to never even think of persecuting anyone else in this way. I hope she can join her husband now - and that the US ambassador, who reportedly said she was too busy to deal with this, gets a kick up the arse.

MrsEdinburgh · 31/05/2014 18:30

That's great news!

Iflyaway · 31/05/2014 18:32

Fantastic news!

Raahh · 31/05/2014 18:36

I rarely comment on things like this- but I read this and it horrified me. Most of all, that her poor little boy has had to endure it with her. She has been a very strong woman, and i hope the family can be left if peace, with no repercussions.

Animation · 31/05/2014 19:02
Grin Bless her heart - she must be so tired.
JaneParker · 31/05/2014 19:48

Good.

It's one of the most backward nations on the plant. 90% of girls in Northern Sudan have suffered female genital mutilation.

YeGodsAndLittleFishes · 31/05/2014 19:49

Hurrah! Hope she is able to live with her baby and get away freom the ex's family.

SirChenjin · 31/05/2014 19:51

Excellent news.

I hope that the Sudan Govt now looks very closely at how Islam is represented in its country. Utterly barbaric.

the US ambassador, who reportedly said she was too busy to deal with this - wtf?? Who was this? Shock

booface · 31/05/2014 19:53

That is such great news. Just yesterday I went on the Amnesty site and did the e-mail thing they had on there. I don't always join in those things, but in this case I just felt I had to. So pleased she is being released.

YoureBeingASillyBilly · 31/05/2014 19:56

Brilliant news! I hope nothing 'happens' to her before her release. How horrific that her and her children went through this. Will she be able to leave the country and live in the US with her DH if they want to?

fancyanotherfez · 31/05/2014 19:57

Brilliant news! Apparently the president is moderate but needs the extremists to keep him in power. I hope he has decided to put them in their place so they never get away with that barbarity again

It is great news but all the systems that lead to this are still in place. Sad
