actually I like the principle behind it ... you go to jail you pay for your own upkeep.

Just seems a bit weird that 'waiting for trial' and convicted murderers are being kept in the same circumstances

I think it depends on what you believe the purpose of a prison is: to punish or to rehabilitate. Personally, I think a prison should do both, but it rarely achieve the rehabilitation. I wonder if this approach works. Do you suppose there are any studies on the rate of rentry and reoffending from their inmates.

$1500 per month sounds good to me. What do I have to do to get in?
