This is so bizarre and somehow remindes me of the movies 'Escape from LA' and 'Escape from Manhattan'!

actually I like the principle behind it ... you go to jail you pay for your own upkeep.

Just seems a bit weird that 'waiting for trial' and convicted murderers are being kept in the same circumstances

MrsBigD, convicted murderers and those on remand are generally kept in the same circumstances in this country too.

I think it depends on what you believe the purpose of a prison is: to punish or to rehabilitate. Personally, I think a prison should do both, but it rarely achieve the rehabilitation. I wonder if this approach works. Do you suppose there are any studies on the rate of rentry and reoffending from their inmates.

$1500 per month sounds good to me. What do I have to do to get in?
