This is surely a frighteningly bad idea isn't it?

Is this just about the child protection bit of social services or would it include the disabled childrens section as well? It's not clear as it mentions 'the outsourcing of children's social services' which could include the disabled children's team but only talks about child protection. I have contact with ss due to my disabled children and this would really worry me. Of course children known to child protection are even more vulnerable and they shouldn't be subject to this kind of worry either, they usually don't have parents who would be looking out for them at all.

Having said that, my DS goes to a special school which is run by a private company (funded by our education authority) and they have been brilliant with him. They are a profit-making company but one of the best in the sector and no state schools were able to offer the expertise that they have.

I'll try and find the thread that's already running on this in AIBU.

An expert poster has pointed out that the law actually changed in 2008, so the underlying principles changed then, and described a number of the key points.

However the services are delivered, the responsibility remains firmly with the LA, who remain accountable post-2008 exactly as they did before.

Meditrina - a link would be great. Thank you. I did have a quick look to see if I could find something before I posted but was too lazy to go past the first page.

I'd like very much to read more from people who maybe work in this sector or have a lot of involvement in some way.
