Why was that shocking? I'm not saying that is right or wrong but people can lie to the police and people in authority do sometimes get things wrong. Someone saying in their opinion that there still isn't something quite right about it is an opinion that they are entitled to. Just as you are your opinion that if the police say its all ok. Then it must be.

Nicknacky · 09/05/2014 18:34

The police won rust have taken his word on it. They will have viewed hours of CCTV, taken statements etc and they are happy. Why should we doubt the result of the enquiry?

Nicknacky · 09/05/2014 18:38

Won't just!! Not won rust!

JRmumma · 09/05/2014 18:41

I don't mean you should doubt it, i don't think that at all. I'm sure the police have done a thorough job and have come to the right conclusion. That they were even looking into this at all i think is excellent. I just think that if someone thinks that it still looks a bit shifty to them, then they are entitled to think and say that.

Nicknacky · 09/05/2014 18:43

It was your comment about people in authority getting it wrong which made me think you doubt it. Everyone can have an opinion but let's not assume that armchair detectives are better at the job than the real ones!

Martorana · 09/05/2014 18:49

"just think that if someone thinks that it still looks a bit shifty to them, then they are entitled to think and say that."

With no concern at all for the poor innocent sod in the middle of all this? Or doesn't he matter because he's old?

BuzzardBird · 09/05/2014 21:31

Funny how it didn't look dodgy to everyone and no-one judged anyone else involved Hmm

Martorana · 10/05/2014 12:35

He was walking quickly because he thought the child's mother was just down the mall to the right as you look.He was trying to reunite them as quickly as possible.

Look again with that thought in mind. Then, the next time you look at a few seconds of an incident wait before condemning. And shame on those of you who are still suspecting this man.

OnlyLovers · 10/05/2014 13:28

And shame on those of you who are still suspecting this man.

Hear hear. For fuck's sake. Give it up.

To be honest this is why I would never approach a child I don't know who looks lost, perhaps I might nowadays if I had my own toddler in tow as people react very differently in that context. I'm 6ft beardy and to some might look a little frightening.

There have been a handful of occasions where I've seen little ones gotten lost. My usual MO is I stop what I am doing and just wait. I keep an eye on the child and wait for the frantic mother to come into view, once reunited and safe and sound no need to do much else.

Only times it's happened to me have been in shopping centres, I guess I'd weigh it up differently if it was near a road or there was some other environmental hazard, but generally I don't see the need to get immediately involved. Only times it has happened I've been on my own, if I had someone with me I'd send them to go find a member of staff to make an announcement, and just stay nearby to make sure the child stayed safe.

That guy seemed to come round corner quite fast. He was walking in the same direction as mum and child. Then he seemed too quick to take the child's hand and lead the child back round the corner - in the opposite direction.

Then he stopped - as if the mum might have called out when she turned the pram around. And when mum approaches he bends down and talks to the child rather than to the mum.

It does look suspicious.

Martorana · 12/05/2014 08:26

Yes it dos look suspicious. But it isn't. Not even slightly. Which is why there is a lesson to be learned. I hope people are learning it.

Animation · 12/05/2014 08:43

You seem very sure Martorana.

And what is the lesson?

Martorana · 12/05/2014 09:39

I am very sure. Because the police interviewed the man very briefly after he went to the police station and then issued a statement saying that it was entirely innocent. Had they had the slightest suspicion that it wasn't, he would have been detained, questioned and his house searched. None of which happened.

And the lesson? Not to jump to conclusions on minimal evidence.

zippey · 12/05/2014 21:34

It looks pretty innocent to me. A good Samaritan.

sajmeister · 06/10/2014 13:04

This does look a little suspicious, I wonder what the mother said to the man! Also, as soon as he approached the kid he could clearly see a woman in front of him and he could have asked her if this kid was with her before attempting to be a "good samaritan", also he could have gotten a security guard from the shop to take the kid in instead. This is a little iffy but at the same time we have to be open minded!
