Apparently doing preparation work for the huge numbers of people who now come and climb Everest in the late spring and summer. I guess it is a well paid job in Nepal, but there are clearly risks. There is no sophisticated warning system here and it is a such a dangerous environment. This will hit their community very hard.

There's so much wrong with Everest I don't know where to start: the sherpas have decided to abandon the season now. I'm sure that's not an easy decision if your livelihood depends on it, but it's admirable. Alan Hinkes reportedly said this morning that "no mountain is worth a life" and he's right..
