If there are 'martyrdom' videos of the arrested suspects do you think they will be pleading guilty? And if not, how will they explain the video evidence?

hope they get life. depressingly, they probably won't though.

Alibaldi · 21/08/2006 18:06

They'll probably say they were faked by the British imperialists to frame them.

dinny · 21/08/2006 18:10

oh, yes, that'd be about right, Alibaldi. or they'll be acquitted in case legal system appears prejudiced against Islamic fundamentalists. gah.

Alibaldi · 21/08/2006 18:21

Yes, because system has to appair fair to minorities so if they're found guilty racism will be the next item on the agenda good job their British Citizens ( were they all born in UK or were they naturalised, does anyone know?) for heaven forbid should the UK try extradition proceedings. The dutch used to just stuff illegals on the next plane back. Now making it compulsary to learn Dutch otherwise no benefits - not a bad idea and before everyone yells at me - I am no racist but do believe that if you do not immerse yourself into the culture and language of the country you live in you immediately create a ghetto existance for yourself. I lived in various countries including Holland and Belgium and now the USA and learnt/learning the languages is vital as well as their cultures. And yes American English is very different - sorry Expat

Can't help feeling very, very sad for the eight month-old baby who has lost both his/her parents over this though. Both mother and father have been in custody for last ten days and now they've been charged so won't be home any time soon. Mother's lawyers were at the High Court arguing her detention was unlawful when she was charged. She's charged with not telling the authorities what her husband is accused of being up to.

Obviously if they are guilty, then it has to happen, but it's just so very sad for that poor baby.

Blandmum · 21/08/2006 19:00

as you say very sad. The baby is at least being looked after by the grandmother. One woman has been releaced, is this the mother do you know?

OP posts:
Joolstoo · 21/08/2006 19:14

sad for the baby not to have it's parents around but what lessons would they be teaching it?

Blandmum · 21/08/2006 19:17

although as yet nothing has been proved. Innocent until proved guilty and all that

OP posts:
Joolstoo · 21/08/2006 19:19

yes, quite - oops!

fuzzywuzzy · 21/08/2006 19:29

Dunno if they are teaching their children anything as of yet without evidence.

They're holding 9 of the 25 on more serious charges aren't they???

What is the video evidence, a kind of suicide note????

Blandmum · 21/08/2006 19:32

The police have state that they have video tapes that tape the form of 'Martydom' videos. Obviously no one knows what is on them as yet, but the inference is that they have taken the same form as those that have been put out by previous suicide bombers.

All as yet untested in court etc.

I think a number have now been arrested rather than being held IYSWIM.

Whatever happens still awful for the baby

LaylaandSethsmum · 21/08/2006 19:36

I read last week that the couple in question planned to take the baby with them on their mission. If this proves to be the case them am afraid the baby is probably better off now.

mogwai · 21/08/2006 19:57

bastards

mogwai · 21/08/2006 19:58

and other names....

fuzzywuzzy · 21/08/2006 20:16

LaylaandSethsmum where did you find this out??

edam · 21/08/2006 20:23

No, it wasn't the mother of the baby who was released. As I said, her lawyers were at the High Court trying to get her released on a procedural matter when the news came through she'd been charged. So the High Court case was stopped, I imagine.

I hope that the rumours about the parents are false. Often information is put out unattributably to discredit people. Or because even professionals involved in cases like these (or their colleagues not immediately involved) like to speculate, just like we do. Human nature and all that. But very dangerous when it's serious allegations of this nature.

LaylaandSethsmum · 22/08/2006 08:43

Hi i think i originally read it in the Telegraph but can't find that link. It was also in tabloids of course This is one of the stories.

DominiConnor · 25/08/2006 17:43

The videos are only evidence, not proof.
Young men make threats all the time, most of them don't get carried out. My 5yo wants to kill the Hood from Thunderbirds.

Sadly though, the police do have a tendency to leak stuff that makes them look good, and to blacken their targets.
Remember the police faking evidence for the Irish bombers ?

Busyalexsmummy · 27/08/2006 08:01

the whole situatuion makes me mad, just like they released that suspect and now everyones worrying that he'll be killed or tortured when he is deported! wtf? if he was being held as a suspect, there was oviously a reason for that and I couldnt give a monkeys what happens to him now
