OP posts:

I think that's the crux of it, some people wouldn't turn a light on even if their partner was up and awake, some people would, and I think this is where this whole case divides people, which unfortunately makes it fascinating.

For as many people on here who have said they no a SA colleague/friend etc who would shoot a supposed intruder through a door as many have said their SA colleague/friend wouldn't.

As for DV, one bullying aggressive message is one to many, doesn't make OP a murderer, but doesn't make him a pleasant person either.

This is why Nels questioning is so important, aggressive as it is it may be the only way to get to any truth as to what happened that night, answers Reevas family so desperately need.

Fleta · 10/04/2014 09:12

Not really anything sentient but more a stream of consciousness.

Firstly I'm quite uncomfortable with the posts criticising the judge for allowing court to adjourn when he is tired and distressed. That is human compassion for the first part and what a judge does - if a defendant is distressed, there is always the possibility that the defence then uses this - "oh he only answered X because he wasn't in a fit mental state".

I'm finding the whole case really distressing. At the end of the day a young woman is dead in tragic circumstances. I've been a OP fan for years, my DD loves him (she doesn't know about the trial) and I'm finding it really hard to turn off personal emotion and look at the case objectively.

I know more than anything I want him NOT to have murdered her. And for it all to have been an accident.

OneStepCloser · 10/04/2014 09:19

Can anyone explain the 'accent' thing to me, what does Nel mean?

voiceofgodot · 10/04/2014 09:20

I think OP has just explained it - she was practising accents for a role she was preparing for.

RoadKillBunny · 10/04/2014 09:20

Seems like allot in the house was broken.
For a man who claims to be so fearful and worried about crime and intruders he seems to have put nothing in place to give himself extra protection other then have guns and bats. I feel that it was an excuse to him, it allowed him a reason to keep and carry guns and seems to have almost relished the chance to use them. I would even go as far as saying he spears to have been willing that excuse to happen and when finally he felt he had the perfect reason to charge in and discharge a gun off range he jumped at it disregarding sense and safety just so he could finally live out his fantasy.
That is if he is telling the truth and he did believe there was an intruder.
I have a feeling the truth lies somewhere in the middle of the States case and the defence and that nobody but OP will ever know that truth.
Nell is on fire today it seems, OP is really not doing himself any favours.

OneStepCloser · 10/04/2014 09:21

Thanks voice I'm not watching live but feeding updates, it's not completely clear as too what's being said.

Aventurine · 10/04/2014 09:29

I never turn the light on to go to the loo at night. Those who do, doesn't it hurt your eyes?

HowAboutNo · 10/04/2014 09:31

I turn on a dull sidelight next to my bed, but not the bathroom light. Too bright

voiceofgodot · 10/04/2014 09:36

I don't either, but then again it's not so dark that I can't see.

voiceofgodot · 10/04/2014 09:37

According to OP, there would have been some light in the bedroom at the point she got up, because didn't he put her jeans over the amplifier's LCD when he came back into the room just before hearing the noise?

Pennies · 10/04/2014 09:39

Is it me mishearing or is Nel swearing a lot. "fucked up" "shit mood"

voiceofgodot · 10/04/2014 09:41

No, he is swearing..!

HowAboutNo · 10/04/2014 09:43

I may actually love this judge.

Pennies · 10/04/2014 09:44

Why? It seems unnecessary? How does the judge allow it? It makes him seem out of control.

Roux even apologised for OP changing out of his suit when he pulled the stump stunt yet Nel can use that kind of language and get away with it. I don't understand.

HowAboutNo · 10/04/2014 09:45

Are you finding these texts indicative of an abusive, controlling relationship, or him just being a bit of an immature dick?

HowAboutNo · 10/04/2014 09:45

pennies I thought he was quoting the messages?

AfricanExport · 10/04/2014 09:47

....for at worst breaking into his house..

Sorry that is laughable and an indication that you don't understand SA. Which is fair enough. . unless you have lived there you won't understand it but don't kid yourself. If you live there and are burgled your chances of survival are not great.

I'm the only one of 6 siblings, who has not had a gun pointed to my head... Why? because I live in England. Shock

You guys can judge and speculate as much as you like. You can say ... You wouldn't do this.... You wouldn't do that... but the truth is you wouldn't have a f'ING clue what you would do because you cannot fathom the situation in SA. It's beyond your imagination. It's beyond belief. .. loads of people who have actually been murdered in their homes or businesses by burglars. and I mean a lot is people. And not Oh I heard of this guy that did this bullshit. But I am actually able to list people I know personally who have died like this. A LOT!

oh and they don't just kill you. You can be tortured first... just for fun.. This is very fucking real!!!

if you have ever actually been in fear of being murdered or raped..trust me.. logic goes out the window. you do what you need to do to survive and that would NOT awlays be the thing you would have done if you have had the time to draw up a plan. Hmm

I would blow the fuckers away... and I probably wouldn't have stopped at 4 bullets either. I would probably have emptied the gun... ie 17 shots!

Whether he knew it was Reeva.. that I dont know but I do know that his defence is more realistic than Dewani who is imo totally guilty. You see his story works in England but SA they KNOW its bullshit because what he says is illogical. OP's story sounds like BS to the English but is valid in SA as this DOES happen there.

Please go read up on the Farm Murders in SA ... if you can stomach it..

BookABooSue · 10/04/2014 09:48

I wouldn't put a light on during the night either but then again I've never been in a room that's so dark I couldn't see someone moving about at the other side of the bed Hmm

Bonnielangbird · 10/04/2014 09:49

I like the judge too, although I'm surprised that she made that person apologise but is allowing Nel to swear without apology. I hadn't actually noticed him swear though...

I've said awful things to DH, feel a bit bad now if these messages are considered that nasty.

HowAboutNo · 10/04/2014 09:51

That's the thing though isn't it, because Reeva is dead, these messages look worse than they are. I don't think the messages are terrible, but he does sound like a dick and I wonder why she bothered with him if he was that immature 3 months in

Grennie · 10/04/2014 09:52

Africanexport - I have a south african friend, a black woman who works in a call centre. She thinks Oscar is totally guilty.

ExcuseTypos · 10/04/2014 09:53

I've just had a thought. If as the prosecution say they were having a huge argument, and she ran to the bathroom to get away form him, why would all the lights be off?

Surely people don't argue in the dark?

Bonnielangbird · 10/04/2014 09:53

african I am English and I don't think OP is taking BS at all. What you have said goes along with my understanding of living in SA from the people I know there and from everything I have read.

AfricanExport · 10/04/2014 09:59

Just to give you an idea of how bad it can be...

I know an English girl who went through hell in SA. She was so traumatised no-one in England could help. The NHS ended up referring her to a trauma clinic in Cape Town to get help.. Because only they could truly understand what she went through. She was not their first case!

AfricanExport · 10/04/2014 10:01

I am not saying OP is / is not be guilty. I am saying his story is not unrealistic and that we cannot judge what we would have done in a similar situation because we don't know.
