The point I'm trying to make is, that even if someone is innocent, if you question them for long enough, they will slip up somewhere along the way.

OneStepCloser · 11/04/2014 09:37

I did feel for him at that moment, I was getting confused as well. (This is why I could never work in a situation where you could make such decisions on someone), Im know good when someone cries and I do think in that second he sounded weary and confused and desperate for it to stop.

However, the car shooting one is not good, he remembered details but not who he rung who could have collaberated it, his memory is very selective.

SirChenjin · 11/04/2014 09:38

Agree Excuse. I wonder also how many of our characters would stand up to that level of scrutiny on the witness stand, with every moment of temper, every poor decision, every momentary lapse of judgement pounced on?

OneStepCloser · 11/04/2014 09:42

I`m in the mindframe that he could have made the biggest biggest mistake in his life by shooting Reeva, I dont think that makes someone evil, not all murderers are evil, their actions are, anger and heat of the moment can do such terrible things and owning a killing weapon, well...

Such a violent outlook on life, christ guns are so evil.

Hope that makes sense, not excusing, not baying for blood.

HowAboutNo · 11/04/2014 09:42

This incident that they are going back and forth on now just sounds so immature. Drama drama drama.

OneStep I don't think he's evil either, just an egotistical immature idiot

voiceofgodot · 11/04/2014 09:49

I'm with the rest of you, really feeling for OP now and Nel coming across as pointlessly bullying. To me it was really clear re. the two separate incidents and also re. the wording "switched off the alarm" and "must have switched off the alarm".

Nobody can be word perfect under these circumstances. I think Nel knows that OP is actually standing up really well, he's not looking for these minor slip ups in themselves but hoping that eventually he'll break down and give a bigger one.

StackALee · 11/04/2014 09:50

a lcd light is really annoying, I do understand why he would cover it.

I can also understand why he would not get rid of it.

OneStepCloser · 11/04/2014 09:53

I agree, those led lights are like blinking lazers in your eyes, but they dont give any light to be able to see, do they. I can sleep with the street light and landing light on but one of those I`ll admit would bother me.

voiceofgodot · 11/04/2014 09:54

But a light can't on the one hand give off light that is annoying and on the other hand not give out light to see. I mean, of course it's not as bright as a proper light but it absolutely illuminates a room to a degree.

Redcoats · 11/04/2014 09:57

Not the fans again!

Bet OP's mate Justin is making plans to leave the country.

HowAboutNo · 11/04/2014 09:58

I have read that Nel is such an accomplished prosecutor, and has decades of experience, I'm wondering why he is pursuing the murder charge. He must think there is good reason otherwise, why bother?

ExcuseTypos · 11/04/2014 09:59

I've switched it off. I can't bear it, Nel should be trying to get to the truth but not by asking the same question at least twice, often with others in between, then picking on a single word/phrase, then twisting it.

Can't OP just say "I've already answered that" or why don't his team say "we've been over this"?

voiceofgodot · 11/04/2014 10:00

I don't know about that, let's face it it's a possibility and if he doesn't get charged with that, he may get charged with culpable homicide.

Interesting legal questions answered here - I didn't realise that the murder charge could be transferred ie. if they can prove that he intended to kill an intruder but instead killed Reeva, the state of mind of the alleged offender can be transferred onto the actual victim.

BumPotato · 11/04/2014 10:01

Agree voice that is the reason they're annoying. The room at that point could not have been pitch black.

OneStepCloser · 11/04/2014 10:04

As uncomfortable it is to watch I guess he (Nel) has to be like this in order to try and get to the truth.

Manchesterhistorygirl · 11/04/2014 10:08

I think Nel may be feeling back footed this morning after the Steenkamp family came forward to corroborate op's having wanted to speak privately to them. I think that would piss him off hugely.

Pistorius is standing up well under questioning. He's not slipped up yet, which I think is nels aim. Nel is also working from a place of circumstantial evidence and evidence that has been moved/tampered with. This we know as fact.

I think OP will end up being charged with culpable homicide and no jail time. I don't know about the firearms charges, my feeling is he may just get a slap on the wrist for that too.

OneStepCloser · 11/04/2014 10:11

Why dont you think he will serve any time? I would think the judge will definately ensure that whatever he ends up being found guilty of he will be given the appropriate sentence that goes with that crime. She has painstakenly decided that this trial will be seen as fair.

BookABooSue · 11/04/2014 10:14

I'm only catching little bits this morning so not sure if I picked this up correctly - is OP admitting the alarm was on but didn't go off when he carried Reeva downstairs so he must have turned it off at some point before leaving the bedroom?

LouiseBrooks · 11/04/2014 10:14

I think even if it's culpable homicide he has to serve some time, otherwise there would be a huge outcry about corruption etc (which there is enough of anyway.)

Redcoats · 11/04/2014 10:16

Nice touch from the Steenkamp's to back up OP's version that he did approach them to apologise personally. In her shoes I'd probably 'forget' that.

SirChenjin · 11/04/2014 10:19

I agree with Manchester. There was a similarish case in SA where a man shot at what he thought was someone stealing his car - it turned out to be his daughter using his car, and he killed her. He was tried and I'm sure (iirc) found guilty, but did not go to jail - I think the same thing will happen here.

LouiseBrooks · 11/04/2014 10:19

Why is Nel banging on about the alarm? It's quite plausible that in his panic OP could have forgotten actually switching it off before taking Reeva downstaris, although he knows he must have done it.

I haven't watched this, am just checking the Sky live feed (am at work, so glad the boss is away!). I gather the judge has just told Nel he can't call OP a liar while he is in the witness box (although he did several times yesterday.)

I think Nel is just chip, chip, chipping because he knows he has no real evidence. I'm surprised OP has kept his temper. I don't think I would.

FreeLikeABird · 11/04/2014 10:20

Book, before he carried Reeva he went downstairs to unlock front door for paramedics etc, he said the keypad to turn alarm off is on his house keys, so saying he must have turned it off before he went downstairs to unlock door or the alarm would have went off.

Nel is going over & over the same questions, I understand why because he's obviously trying to make him slip up but it's not going to get anywhere at this rate abs we will still be listening to this at Xmas!

I'm glad Bel got told to watch his language by the judge, he was told he can't call an accused a liar whilst in the witness box, like yesterday when he laughed and the gallery laughed with mr nel when OP made a comment, the judge had a word too, I don't see why anyone was laughing, it's a trial for Murder, nothing to be laughing about in my eyes, disrespectful to Reevas family.
