Julie Bindel moaning

Am I alone in enjoying having my kids with me for the summer?

OP posts:
Carmenere · 18/08/2006 08:51

Can't be bothered reading that self indulgent drivel. Having grown up in Ireland where 3 months summer holidays is the norm, I think the school holidays here are cruelly short.

compo · 18/08/2006 08:51

Blimey what a misery!! Personally I think it's great that children have free bus travel around London and I love seeing kids in museums. There are plenty of child-free places she can go to if she really looks ffs!!

Beetroot · 18/08/2006 08:56

She can't do her interviews in her trendy restaurants because of the noise of kids..bog off!!

OP posts:
aragon · 18/08/2006 09:17

Oh - the lament of the child free. She's childless by choice - I have a child by choice. If I have to put up with her whinging then she has to put up with my snotty, noisy and active 3 year old next to her table in a restaurant

A 3 year old who will grow up and pay taxes and contribute to the society she'll be living in as an OAP.

But.....when I was childless the whinging and screaming kids following me round the supermarket drove me nuts. I really had NO idea.

Beetroot · 18/08/2006 09:20

I might email this link to her!!

OP posts:
aragon · 18/08/2006 09:24

Don't post her the link - she'll hate my post. . Julie - if you read this I don't live remotely near you and you've never shared a restaurant with my child.

GeorginaA · 18/08/2006 09:33

So it's okay to be a spoilt brat who thinks the world revolves around you when you're in your 30s and child-free but not if you're 3 and are still learning the ways of the world? Hmm.

It seems like respect and tolerance should only be something for children to learn and not the adults around them. Do as I say and not as I do?

Beetroot · 18/08/2006 09:34

she will get all arsey and try and sue!!!

OP posts:
GeorginaA · 18/08/2006 09:37

Hmm... I think worse was said on the guardian's own site

Surely she's a shock journo anyway (equivalent of shock jock) - the sort of writer who measures her success by how many angry letters are written to the editor...

Beetroot · 18/08/2006 09:37

what a bring job!

OP posts:
Beetroot · 18/08/2006 09:38

boring

coppertop · 18/08/2006 09:38

I don't understand why she's whingeing about the price of holidays during school holidays. Presumably as a child-free freelancer she can go on holiday whenever she likes?

I'm not keen on the 6-week holidays either tbh but still think she sounds like a spoilt brat who wants her own way all the time.

GeorginaA · 18/08/2006 09:39

Oh I don't know. I reckon I could don flak jacket once a week if it paid well enough Of course, I'd use a pseudonym...

vitomum · 18/08/2006 09:40

i couldn't work out if that was supposed to be a 'serious' or 'amusing' piece - don't think she pulled off either, sorry julie

CaligulaCorday · 18/08/2006 09:47

Excellent succinct summing up Georgina!

KathyMCMLXXII · 18/08/2006 09:51

Choosing not to have your own children is fine. Wanting to live in a world without children is a bit creepy, IMO - it's like wanting to live in a world without the elderly, people with disabilities or illnesses, etc.

Bugsy2 · 18/08/2006 10:03

Oh, the joylessness of Julie Bindel's life! London is like a ghost town during the summer holidays, I don't know what she is moaning about. I get a seat on the tube every morning, there are no children doing the journey to school. I even drove in the other day & couldn't believe how empty the roads were because the schools are on holiday.
None of the restaurants I pass in the South Ken & Sloane Square area are full of children. Julie must be taking her interviewees to really cheap restaurants I can only conclude!!!
I'm a single mum, & I'm able to juggle my childcare during the holidays. It is a bit tricky & does require careful planning. I incur higher childcare costs during the summer holidays, but nothing like what she is suggesting.
Really, really annoying, innacurate article. GRRRRRRRR!

liquidclocks · 18/08/2006 10:07

silly silly silly woman!

Not funny enough to be entertaining, not researched enough to be worth reading (why did I?). Fancy saying that no-one enjoys spending time with their kids - would love to see research backing that up.

trinityrhino · 18/08/2006 10:28

stupid, selfish,yucky woman

m1m1rie · 18/08/2006 10:45

'Those of us who have made a positive choice not to breed will be forced to pay in other ways'. Good job for her that her mother didn't feel like that, isn't it? And don't you find the word breed derogatory, like farm animals? Obviously the intention to equate those who have children with beasts of the field, rather than the obviously stylish and uber-cultured Ms Bindel. How could we ever compare as human beings?
P.s I have never heard an airline call people with children to board first. I have heard them calling people travelling with young children to board first. So doesn't that image of the twelve-year-old finishing their Cappuccino and picking up their ipod come more from the 'author's' imagination than reality? And children in museums - who'd have thought it??!!

CaligulaCorday · 18/08/2006 10:52

And also, she's lying. Airlines don't allow teenagers with ipods to elbow frail grannies out the way, they always call the disabled and infirm old people first as well.

I agree with the first poster on the site, jolly good thing she hasn't bothered to breed.

PinkTulips · 18/08/2006 11:09

not sure whether to laugh or cry at that

and since when is jeremy kyle good tv? prefer the cartoons myself!

if she was trying to be funny she failed and if it was serious she's really shown herself to be an imbecile... 12 year olds boarding before old people on a plane? as if! i've done enough traveling with my parents growing up to know thats utter crap!

i've always thought your holidays are horrifically short, primary schools here have 2 months and secondaries have 3 months and even that flys by for the poor kids.

Overrun · 18/08/2006 11:49

Nonsense, shock journalism, and thats all I want to say on the matter

CaligulaCorday · 18/08/2006 12:05

pmsl at FidelCastro's comment:

"It's quite obvious why Bindel has no children, she keeps eating them at birth."

Chloe55 · 18/08/2006 12:10

Miserable bitch.
