The Apprentice - Michelle and Syed

I keep reading about Michelle Dewberry being pregnant and possibly marrying Syed Ahmed.

Alan Sugar is on holiday atm but he's apparantly not impressed and she has to 'wait for him to return to to learn her fate'(Independent today)

I don't get this. Why would her job or her fate working for Sir Alan be any different now she's expecting? Wouldn't she be allowed maternity leave like anyone else or am I missing something here?

Interesting!
I do know someone who use to work with AS and said he was a male chauvinist pig.... still there is employment law and sexual discrimanation..... he does have lawyers working for him who would advise him I'm sure and would he risk his reputation on this ?

TinyGang · 13/08/2006 13:42

My thoughts exactly Pupuce.

I just think she's as entitiled as anyone else to have a private life and a baby and keep her job if she so wishes.

I think she is entitled to have a baby with whoever she wants, but I can't help thinking that there must be hidden depths to Syed that weren't made obvious on the TV show if she is intelligent and that is what she has decided to do.

Beetle73 · 13/08/2006 22:09

I bet Ruth is laughing her arse off.

CaligulaCorday · 14/08/2006 09:48

Blimey those depths were really well hidden.

Why has he been arrested?

I agree TinyGang but am rather sad a bright woman like Michelle has been so taken in by a neon-sign 5 star charlatan like Syed
I hope she is treated fairly by Amstrad and this is not the start of more stress and unhappiness in her life

thesatinepimpernel · 14/08/2006 09:56

If I were AS, I would be a bit hacked off, though, to have gone through such a long selection process only to have to start again so soon to find maternity cover!! I wonder if The Badger will be getting a phone call...

You are paid, and still employed, but persona non grata in the workplace megg

crunchie · 14/08/2006 10:01

Gardening leave is basically leave where you are being paid a full salary, but it is often instead of working out your notice IYKWIM

I read that ALan Sugar was unhappy with Michelle's performance before this pregnancy thing and that she was already on 'leave' before it was announced. Her pregnancy has nothing to do with her performane, but that it was already not good enough, also I think I read AS was unhappy with stoires in the press about her too!!

I think The Badger did also get an offer out of AS out of the series. Supposed to be working in one of AS's subsidiaries, with Michelle working in another?

Have not heard about gardening leave, though - BTW it is leave whereby they pay you (I believe) but you are not allowed to work for any other employer in the meantime. Pregnancy is not an illness.

gscrym · 14/08/2006 10:10

Who got arrested for money laundering?

My DH's work puts almost everyone on gardening leave. It's a protection for the company as well. Supposedly stops you from taking sensitive information to a competitor. Most people know they're going to hand in their notice amd would have all that info before then anyway.

I always thought the Badger should win. If Michelle gets mat leave, it'll be next to nothing because of the short period she's been with him.

Iklboo · 14/08/2006 10:11

Syed has apparently. (allegedly) naughty boy!

Fimbo · 14/08/2006 10:15

Syed wants to get married but Michelle doesn't apparently.

fsmail · 14/08/2006 21:52

The Badger now has her own consultancy businesses taking failing businesses and putting them right. Expect new TV series soon 'The Badger Beckons'. Good luck to her as I think she is the most hard working out of all of them.

MrsFio · 24/08/2006 19:25

It was in the news today that she has lost the baby

VeniVidiVickiQV · 24/08/2006 19:29

It is

MrsFio · 24/08/2006 19:32

I am sure if she wanted to terminate the pregnancy for 'convinience' matters she would have done so before 4 months tbh

lilymolly · 24/08/2006 19:57

VVV I thought exactly the same- hope to god I am wrong.

fsmail · 25/08/2006 10:00

My DH said exactly the same thing.
