It's so sad. They still haven't found anything, but thinks it's crashed into the sea.

For anyone that hasn't heard

five hours flying - north west frontier e.g india / pakistan border

GoldieMumbles · 14/03/2014 18:09

"five hours flying - north west frontier e.g india / pakistan border"

Yes... and then again no...

Yes if you overfly India. But once again, like China - and especially as India and Pakistan have been at each others' throats for decades - Indian military radar coverage would have seen it.

So no if you take route where India's defence radars couldn't see it.

NigellasDealer · 14/03/2014 18:10

hmm true you have a point there goldie - think there might be a little more to this than the authorities are letting on tbh

MyNameIsKenAdams · 14/03/2014 18:14

So if this plane was purposefully taken elsewhere, its been taken by someone who has an intimate knowledge of milotary coverage of the skies.

MyNameIsKenAdams · 14/03/2014 18:15

Tentatively suggesting when we need to start a second thread (which we will, as chatting with you lot has been great), we call it Goldie Looking Plane Grin

PseudoBadger · 14/03/2014 18:20

7 days now...

GoldieMumbles · 14/03/2014 18:22

"its been taken by someone who has an intimate knowledge of milotary coverage of the skies."

It's not really rocket science though - don't fly over most bits of land. Although it looks like you'd be alright flying over Malaysia. How the hell they could miss a close to 300 tonne airliner passing overhead I'll never know!

HairyPorter · 14/03/2014 18:23

Maybe it's a kidnapping? Weren't the 20 workers from a us firm something defense related??

Littlegreyauditor · 14/03/2014 18:27

Freestyle semiconductors I think.

meditrina · 14/03/2014 18:28

"Although it looks like you'd be alright flying over Malaysia. How the hell they could miss a close to 300 tonne airliner passing overhead I'll never know!"

That assumes I did go over the Malay peninsula. And unless/until the 'ping' is confirmed, it might not have done so. The (unreleased) evidence of turn back is also caveatted that it has not (yet) been establised that it was indeed MH370.

TheArticFunky · 14/03/2014 18:29

The longer this goes on the more bizarre it gets. I assumed that it had fallen into the sea but today's theories suggest otherwise. I hope a resolution comes soon for the sake of the families.

FabBakerGirl · 14/03/2014 18:29

I keep thinking of the two Chinese girls, ages 2 and 4, who have probably lost their parents. It is heart breaking for everyone involved. I read that one woman has accepted her son has died Sad. Whatever has happened I hope the relatives find out as the not knowing is quite possibly worse than knowing everyone has died. At the moment there still has to be hope.

NigellasDealer · 14/03/2014 18:30

manifest for the flight was -
153 Chinese
38 Malaysians
7 Indonesians
6 Australians
5 Indians
4 French
3 Americans
2 each from New Zealand, Ukraine and Canada
One each from Russia, Taiwan, Netherlands
Two men - one confirmed as Iranian - travelling under stolen Italian and Austrian passports

Living · 14/03/2014 18:30

I'm a bit with the conspiracy theorists here in that I think China knows exactly where this plane is but won't let on because that would give their capabilities away. Explains why they've gotten so ratty with Malaysia - they're thinking for flips sake find the plane.

It's at the bottom if the sea somewhere, probably not a million miles from where it should be.

Still it's just more posturing. We'll find out eventually but I predict at least another week.

(gets ready to be wrong)

Littlegreyauditor · 14/03/2014 18:32

Sorry Freescale semiconductors.

"Offering one of the most extensive portfolio of RF products, Freescale serves the wireless infrastructure, wireless personal area network, general purpose amplifier, broadcast, consumer, medical, smart energy, military and industrial markets."

BriocheBriocheBrioche · 14/03/2014 18:33

Goldie looking plane is just brilliant MyNameIs

meditrina · 14/03/2014 18:34

"Maybe it's a kidnapping? Weren't the 20 workers from a us firm something defense related??"

It's a pretty inefficient way of arranging a kidnapping. Unless this group were booked on the flight (and known to be booked on) way in advance, then getting the hijacker/s on the plane could no be guaranteed. Or is the hijacking scenarios meant to cover a frequent flyer/air crew with access to other passenger information just waiting for a articular passenger profile?

GoldieMumbles · 14/03/2014 18:34

"And unless/until the 'ping' is confirmed, it might not have done so. The (unreleased) evidence of turn back is also caveatted that it has not (yet) been establised that it was indeed MH370"

True - but I'd think the US wouldn't be sending its warships on a wild goose chase. They'd have pretty compelling evidence to be sending a warship out into the Indian Ocean, I'd have thought (speculation). And if it indeed did go west then it likely did cross the Malay peninsula rather fly round it.

cashewfrenzy · 14/03/2014 18:35

Come back DoctorTwo! What patent? What page?

meditrina · 14/03/2014 18:37

US, like others, have sent the ships that were in the area. That's pretty normal for major searches, and I wouldn't read anything specific into standard practice.

hellymelly · 14/03/2014 18:42

This thread is interesting and scary in equal measure. I keep thinking of all the people on board, and the waiting families completely desparate for any real news at all. Sad

GoldieMumbles · 14/03/2014 18:46

"US, like others, have sent the ships that were in the area. That's pretty normal for major searches, and I wouldn't read anything specific into standard practice."

OK, but why is a ship being dispatched so far from where everyone thinks the aircraft is? That isn't normal. And why is the White House pronouncing on it? That also isn't normal.

MooseBeTimeForSpring · 14/03/2014 18:46

My DH used to work at a refinery. They wouldn't add the aromatics until the JetA1 was in a holding tank waiting to be pumped to Heathrow or into a road tanker.

GoldieMumbles · 14/03/2014 18:48

I guess I mean to say that it's not normal to dispatch a vessel yo a point '000s of miles from where the aircraft was last seen, especially when you have the capabilities that the US does.

GoldieMumbles · 14/03/2014 18:50

"They wouldn't add the aromatics until the JetA1 was in a holding tank"

I didn't know that - thanks for the info!
