It's so sad. They still haven't found anything, but thinks it's crashed into the sea.

For anyone that hasn't heard

Did you tag them as suspicious ?

AuroraRoared · 12/03/2014 20:00

I find this whole thing very strange indeed.

Their poor families must be in agnoy not knowing what happened. Sad

AchyFox · 12/03/2014 21:06

A New Zealand Oil rig worker says he thought he saw a plane on fire, just East of the main search area.

One thing that is missing is the exact time.

TheOneWithTheNicestSmile · 12/03/2014 21:08

That's been mentioned already, Achy - supposedly the oil company don't know him Hmm

PartyPoison · 12/03/2014 21:16

Chinese officials have released images of 3 large items of debris floating in the water close to wear the plane may have been The images were taken by satellite on the 9th March.

GarlicMarchHare · 12/03/2014 21:55

Golly, jjuice, are they the objects you saw?

SantanaLopez · 12/03/2014 21:57

I am most definitely not an expert, but aren't those pieces too big to come from a 777?

VivaLeBeaver · 12/03/2014 21:58

So if it is wreckage and its between Malaysia and Vietnam what of the military sighting/tracking of the plane on the other side of Malaysia?

BBC saying pictures were take on Sunday but released today

PartyPoison · 12/03/2014 22:07

I know it needs to be confirmed (and there have been false leads before) but I just can't see China releasing this info without them being 99.9% sure than this is the plane. I can't see the Chinese Government releasing images, where there is a risk of them having egg on their faces.

DowntonTrout · 12/03/2014 22:12

The position of these objects in the sea also corresponds with the email from the oil rig worker which had been discounted earlier.

CNN says they are now looking into that again.

ZingSweetMango · 12/03/2014 22:16

I don't presume they expect any survivors, do they?Sad

GarlicMarchHare · 12/03/2014 22:20

The Chinese news agency released the pictures this morning! Nobody noticed Confused

Whatever happened or didn't happen, it's quite a catalogue of ineptitude, isn't it?

The Guardian gives 777 dimensions, Santana, the found objects aren't too big at all.

SantanaLopez · 12/03/2014 22:20

It must have been too long now for anyone to survive. Chilling :(

AnyaKnowIt · 12/03/2014 22:24

They were posted on a science website so can understand why they were missed by the press.

Still strange that the Chinese are complaining about how its being handle tho.

The whole thing is strange

SantanaLopez · 12/03/2014 22:30

The Guardian gives 777 dimensions, Santana, the found objects aren't too big at all.

But surely it can't have broken up into such big pieces? The MNer who knew what she was talking about upthread mentioned confetti.

SantanaLopez · 12/03/2014 22:30

But it is very strange that the Chinese would release pictures if they weren't sure, as I said I'm not an expert.

DowntonTrout · 12/03/2014 22:34

Whatever the outcome is, there has been a huge amount of ineptitude shown by the Malay authorities. This incident may well end up changing air travel safety, hopefully for the better, as it has become clear that there are far too many "unknowns" when something like this occurs.

VivaLeBeaver · 12/03/2014 22:35

Pilot rumour website reckons China knows where the plane is. That they've heard the ping from the black box but don't want to admit their capabilities are that good. Hence they've been able to hone in on position. They also reckon tha China satellites are capable of better images and that China will have better pictures.....but again don't want everyone else to know how good their sattelites are. So they release fuzzy pictures but will be confident its the aircraft in question.

AnyaKnowIt · 12/03/2014 22:37

Also, isn't China helping with the search? Why haven't the checked it out?

AnyaKnowIt · 12/03/2014 22:37

Viva I can believe that

AchyFox · 12/03/2014 23:00

Surely someone at tomnod.com will be tying up the Chinese satellite data with theirs ?

Maybe they don't have coverage ?

The resolution at tomnod is better than 0.5m/pixel whereas the Chinese data is around 2-3m at 1st glance.

AchyFox · 12/03/2014 23:03

I managed to get tomnod working in Chrome and spotted a 1.5m2 white blob, but no idea where it was.

AuntieStella · 12/03/2014 23:07

Is China complaining about how it's being handled? The BBC version says they commented on how the infomation released was leading to confusion, and I took that to be a criticism of press handling.

Because the expert and governmental organisations of the nations involved in the search will be sharing far more info than that which has been released, and any perceived deficiencies in that would be handled behind the scenes, not in public statement (especially not by the Chinese).

And releasing bits of info, or having bits emerge from third parties, is causing spikes of media focus, which is probably no helpful, as snippets are continually over-analysed.
