BBC Link

The appeal after the overturned convictions. I hope this can all be brought to a close now.

Chaffinch on AK's blog today the first sentence she writes is about Meredith and expresses concern and care for her family.

It's like Inspector Montalbano meets Scooby Doo.

Sorry but...

Floraclare · 02/02/2014 21:30

ChaffinchOfDoom - the coroner was happy that the wounds on Meredith Kercher were consistent with a lone attacker. Do you really believe that three people who barely knew each other would get involved in a cold clinical killing together? There was blood everywhere, how could they not leave fingerprints and footprints in the same way as Guede - if they are holding her down and she is struggling against them, how can they not leave DNA.

The burglary was not fake - it was Guede's exact modus operandi. He had broken into a number of properties in a similar way in the previous couple of weeks.

Nancy66 · 02/02/2014 21:35

a coroner does not have the expertise to make that call.

The official autopsy concluded that the signs pointed towards there being more than one killer.

PortofinoRevisited · 02/02/2014 21:42

It said that there COULD have been more than one perpetrator.

Floraclare · 02/02/2014 21:47

A coroner does the official autopsy - and does have the expertise to make that call. The coroner claimed that no conclusion about the number of attackers could be made from the wounds - and that they were consistent with both a lone and group attack. Claiming anything else is just anti-science

Other forensic experts that have analysed the crime in depth (see Ron Hendry) have also confirmed the wounds were consistent with a lone attacker

Of course the prosecution came up with crazy theories such as a tall man with a knife couldn't overpower and control a small woman, due to a yellow belt in karate. My 6-year-old niece has a yellow belt in karate

You have to remember they had all only known each other for a short time. To all intents and purposes, Meredith had made other friends in that time, but had been out with Amanda a couple of times too. Meredith's friends didn't like Amanda that much. I can see this as an expat. You gravitate to people who are like you. And people from other countries/cultures can seem brusque or different. And you don't warm to them.

Immediately, I mean.

en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Murder_of_Meredith_Kercher#Rudy_Guede

Rudy Guede - brought up by Priests and teachers and his father from the age of 5. At 15 his father leaves the country and a wealthy family take him in. At 17 things start to go downhill and he goes off the rails. In mid-2007 the same year of the murder, the wealthy adopters kick him out. On 27th October he is found having broken into a nursery with a 11 inch knife. He fled the country a few days after the murder.

I rest my case.

Floraclare · 02/02/2014 22:00

I agree Portofino, I remember initially finding the American girls at my university incredibly annoying and uncool - and then I got to know them and they were lovely people who ended up being good friends. It's hard to judge someone accurately when they are outside of their usual cultural environment

TheOneWithTheNicestSmile · 02/02/2014 22:01

\link{http://groundreport.com/the-murder-of-meredith-kercher/\this blog (?) has a lot of useful information about RG}

written by an American from Washington State - so perhaps someone who knows AK - but even so, there's a lot of incriminating stuff about his previous behaviour I'd not heard before

TheOneWithTheNicestSmile · 02/02/2014 22:03

In mid-2007 the same year of the murder, the wealthy adopters kick him out

not according to my link, horse - that happened 3 years earlier

Floraclare · 02/02/2014 22:05

Exactly horsetowater - he was also found with stolen property in his bag, which had been stolen from a lawyers office by throwing a rock through the second story window and climbing the grate on the window below - sound familiar?

It seems like he liked to break into houses and make himself comfortable - in this tragic case Meredith came home and likely locked the door, trapping Guede in the house. It's so bizarre that this fairly simple to solve crime has ended up so complicated

ChaffinchOfDoom · 02/02/2014 22:08

theory floated on the other MK thread; sorry don't remember poster

Rg did it alone
RS & AK stumble in, high as kites,.
discover body. panic, move it and fake burglary
begin freaking out ie mixed up stories, lying, delaying MK's door being opened
confused via drugs / panic etc

am starting to see every explanation in some way seems to defy explanation.

TheOneWithTheNicestSmile · 02/02/2014 22:11

god, I've just read further on in the thing about RG

it's horrible

poor Meredith Sad

Floraclare · 02/02/2014 22:15

That sounds like the most ridiculous theory ever. Why on earth would they cover for Rudy Guede and fake a burglary - and that must have been crazy cannabis they were smoking? They are apparently off their heada and move the body without leaving any prints and then fake a burlary using Guede's exact modus operandi. And how did Rudy Guede get into the cottage - are people arguing that he had a date with Meredith?

I just don't understand why it all needs to be so complicated

horsetowater · 02/02/2014 22:15

Smile - it's interesting (but long). It's highly unlikely that a man of this psychological profile would want to do a 'group murder' or anything deviant together with others. He obviously had deep seated problems and was a lone wolf. I actually feel sad for him that his life was so tragic but I wish he'd not implicate the others.

The TV documentary was interesting and implicated Guede's adoptive father as having an influence in the investigation. Perhaps he was hiding something else and it was in his interests that Guede was not accused.

horsetowater · 02/02/2014 22:18

Ooo perhaps Guede's rich adoptive father had a hand in trying to cover for him? I'm sure someone's thought of that one though?

Floraclare · 02/02/2014 22:19

And what nonsense about delaying Meredith's door being opened. They called the police and called Filomena. I think I would be reluctant to kick down a door in a shared flat that I rented - and sensibly waited for Filomena to arrive

If they had kicked the door down, people would then be arguing 'but how did they know anything was wrong? - again damned whatever they do

TheOneWithTheNicestSmile · 02/02/2014 22:19

'By November 10th, Guede was “a person of interest” and the manhunt was on. He was tricked into revealing his whereabouts when the police orchestrated a sting using one of his friends. The Nov. 19, 2007 Skype conversation revealed that he was in Germany and shortly afterward he was apprehended trying to board a train.
Guede was extradited back to Italy on December 6, 2007.
In the Skype call, Guede tells Giacomo Benedetti that he was surprised Amanda had been arrested because “she was not in the house.” He doesn’t even mention Raffaele and then he places himself at the scene by commenting about theft of Meredith’s money admitting that the police “don’t even know the money is missing yet.”'

Floraclare · 02/02/2014 22:22

I agree horsetowater, Guede fits the profile of a lone wolf spiralling into a life of crime. It sounded like he had a horrendous childhood and some deep seated psychological problems - all consistent with someone that would be unable to control their emotions at times of great stress

PortofinoRevisited · 02/02/2014 22:25

My theory - RG broke in as described above - he had done it before. Meredith comes home about 9. She goes to her room, tries to ring her mum, who was ill and was probably uppermost in her thoughts. RG jumps her, hence interrupted call, her still having her jacket on etc. Rapes her and kills her. Scarpers. Shits in toilet - my understanding is that this is a nerves/adrenaline thing often seen in burglaries.. Tries to switch phones off but probably struggles with menus as in English. Throws them over a wall near his flat. Before 1Opm - gets changed, goes to disco, flees country.

Meanwhile, AK gets given the night off unexpectedly at 8.20. RS was expecting to have to take a friend to the station to collect something but friend turns up at 20.45 saying it was no longer necessary. They spend the rest of the night smoking pot, shagging, watching movies etc in a bit of a vague way. The same cctv that picked up Meredith and Rudi near the cottage, did not pick up them.

OP posts:
Floraclare · 02/02/2014 22:26

Guede also claimed to be at the cottage about 9pm and that he had been on the toilet when Meredith was killed at about 9:20pm - which again corresponds to an early time of death and a time when it would have been impossible for Amanda and Raffaele to be present at the cottage

He later went out dancing and then left town - and the prosecution referred to him as 'poor Rudy'

Floraclare · 02/02/2014 22:29

And I totally agree with your theory Portofino - and it fits all the evidence and doesn't require a plot taken straight out of Fifty Shades of Grey
