Apparently they were tucked up at the top of her ribs. Both babies were nearly 5lbs. She had no idea she was pregnant until her waters broke, then she was rushed in, had a c-section, surgeon was about to sew her up when they noticed twin.

The poor woman already has an 11 month old so she must have got pg when he was only 2 months old.

How can this be?

We're talking to this woman on our radio show tomorrow.

Of course, the title should say just hours AFTER learning she was pregnant with twins.

I was going to post that but thought "no, don't GS, it's just pedantic and annoying"

God, poor woman what a HUGE shock

Am now sat here poking round my ribcage just in case

OH

MY

GOD

I just can not imagine what she must be thinking right now.

oliveoil · 20/07/2006 15:29

I am not having it that the surgeon 'just noticed the other twin'.

I mean come on surely not???

expatinscotland · 20/07/2006 15:30

Was she overweight? I sometimes wonder if it might not be as noticeable if a person is obese, but I'm not sure b/c I never have been.

HRHQueenOfQuotes · 20/07/2006 15:34

I have an aqquaintance who went up to a staggering size 8 with her first pg and up to a size 10 with her 2nd. With both pg's no-one could tell she was pg until she was well past 6 months - she was actually 7 1/2 months pg with her 2nd before anyone even suspected!

zippitippitoes · 20/07/2006 15:39

This happened to someone who went into hospital the same time as i had ds we shared a lift and she had 10 month old twins and she had not known that she was pregnant until her waters broke..so knew she was pregnant for about 2 hours before having a little boy!

zippitippitoes · 20/07/2006 15:41

ie she had the twins first

suzywong · 20/07/2006 15:42

I never believed anyone could "not Know"
until I met a woman at a party who didn't know til she was inthe bath and in labour one day, she only had a single delivery though.
She was very intelligent, but somewhat irregular in cycle and lumpen in figure and she just didn't know

Funny old weld innit?

sandyballs · 20/07/2006 15:45

Blimey, 3 under 1, poor mare.

I've got twins and I just can't believe how anyone could not know they were carrying them.
I was absolutely massive and could hardly walk.

expatinscotland · 20/07/2006 15:52

Oprah actually did a show on this topic years ago, b/c she, too, never believed this could happen.

There were some professional, ordinary guests on the show who'd had it happen to them - no twins, though.

One was NOT a first time mum. She had put on about 5 lbs., but attributed it to an ice cream shop that had opened up near her home.

She gave birth on the toilet, trying desperately not to frighten her 4-year-old daughter. They broadcast the child's phone conversation w/emergency services.

Another was a professional lady, newlywed, who thought she had appendicitis. She fell suddenly ill over a meal out w/her husband, who rushed her to hospital w/her balled up on the back seat.

The baby's head was crowning when they arrived at hospital.

CheesyFeet · 20/07/2006 16:39

Which is your radio show Spidermama?

blueshoes · 20/07/2006 17:08

Don't they feel the baby's movements?

Happened to a friend of mine - not twins though.

I've told her she should sell her story to one of those crappy magazines they have at the checkout in Morrisons (y'know, the ones with salacious headlines that should really be on the top shelf away from my dds who ask "What's rape mummy?" and "Why did that lady murder her sister's best friend's lesbian lover?" as you're trying to pay for your tinned tomatoes....woops but that's another thread in the making) anyway, my friend is still to embarrased that she could fail to know she was pregnant.

VeniVidiVickiQV · 20/07/2006 17:49

SIL didnt know she was pg until she was 6 months gone because she only had a period about once a year.

FuglyDucking · 20/07/2006 18:11

Girl I go to uni with has just found out she's 6months pregnant. Was on the pill and had no symptoms apart from some light spotting bout 2 weeks ago. Went to her Dr and was told she was over 5 months pregnant. Went for a scan and is due in October :O
