awful

makes me glad we left London though suppose these things happen anywhere. makes me so upset women are a such risk at all times of day. though had been on mitcham common once with dh and kids pickign blackberries and remember thinking I'd never go there alone as it's pretty desolate.

What a waste of a life, and so pretty too.

a 34-year-old woman was raped and murdered on a power walk in the middle of Glasgow at 9.30AM on a sunny day.

can happen anywhere.

so scary - it's just not safe anywhere, it would seem. think it's safe out running if sticking to main roads?

I drove through Mitcham Common twice yesterday, taking DS2 and DD to a birthday party and it's irrational I know, but it just makes me so sad that we were so happy and oblivious to her lying whereever she was.

dinny · 17/07/2006 14:22

we did too, Serenity - saw the police helicopter parked on the grass. makes me shudder to think she was lying somewhere there. I always drive through about 1am on way home from work too and have got the shudders about that too.

Dinny, the fact that someone was held before they definitely knew she was dead, makes it likely that it was someone she knew. I think the fact she was jogging on the Common is a bit of a red herring. I won't feel any less safe going there with the DCs because I'm pretty sure it wasn't a random stranger type of thing.

serenity · 17/07/2006 14:24

Oh god, I never clicked that the helicopter and police stuff was because of that, but then I didn't read about it until after we got home. We waved out the car window at them

yes, thought it was there for a fete-type thing.

where do you live, Serenity?

Close to Streatham Common, so just down the road really. The birthday party was at Dean City Farm which is why we were going through that part of Mitcham.

I think there are places that are more safe than others. I walk alot in Richmond Park, but if I am on my own I always avoid wooded/scrub areas and stick to the places where I know other people can see me. If nobody is around at all (e.g. middle of winter), I stick to paths next to roads.
