P*ssed off with child abuse news articles

There were at least two in the Times yesterday of either an 18 month old being killed or sexually abused with the attackers only getting 4 years in prison. WTF is wrong with our judicial system???!!!

Makes me mad and sad. My very own ds is 18 months and I'd want to kill anyone who tried to hurt him.

That's a very good question, mummy. The justice system does seem to pass extremely light sentences on those who abuse children - even repeat offenders.

Let loose to ruin someone else's life.

I think most of the judges are perverts themselves, why would they give such lenient sentences otherwise.
This country is a joke. No other country has such pathetic sentences. If someone robbed a bank though, they would get banged up for 25+ years. Paedophiles know they won't get long inside, that's why there is so many of them committing offences. They get banged up with people (if u can call them that) like themselves and have a great time.

If you had then I think you would find that it is not a "great time"

Judges give such lenient sentences because, by and large, that's what the sentencing guidelines produced by the government tell them to do.

Until we all start to complain and complain and make ourselves heard nothing will be done. Write to Lord Goldsmith and your MP and demand something is done, that sentences are increased etc. We get the judiciary and government we deserve I'm sorry to say and until we get off out collective arses it will only get worse.

Think in part it's a financial issue. The longer someone stays inside, the more expensive it is.

Four years is ridiculous. Perhaps they were the parents of the children and as such were treated more leniently? Not that I would agree with that if it were the case.

Well Mummyofeb, we all emailed the attorney general Lord Goldsmith, and some of us wrote to our MP's too about the Webster French sentencing here and Webster had his sentence increased.

I had a hand-written note back from my MP Geoffrey Clifton-Brown which said that my involvement had definitely made a difference which was nice. So I know believe that we can do something if we see an injustice in the sentencing of paedophiles but we have to pressure our MP's all of the time and over every case otherwise nothing happens. Eventually they will get the message and build more prisons.

Callisto - more people like you we need in this world. I am going to write to my MP about the pathtetic sentence handed out to Craig Sweeney for abducting and raping a 3 year old girl. I am also peed off about that couple that got off with baby chloe's murder (see thread below)
