yeah I read this as well earlier and was about to start a thread.

It's really sad isn't it and shows up the state of the Health System. Just glad that little mite survived

Sadly nursing as a profession is not as attractive as it used to be.

I work for the NHS and my hospital struggles to get trainee nurses these days.

It's an upsetting state of affairs when young people would rather be pop-stars or Z-List celebrities than start a career helping people.

I know it's not hugely paid, but it's not terrible and a very rewarding job.

It's not just affecting NICUs either. My dd is treated for her cardiac problems at a specialist childrens' hospital. They have 20 ICU beds but currently they are 20 ICU nurses short and are only opening 13 beds. That means that sick kids get transferred to other units, surgery is cancelled and highly paid surgeons are left twiddling their thumbs. The cardiac elective list is 120 ops behind schedule this year.
