I'm really distressed watching it on the news. I don't understand why David Cameron is there? Does anyone else know?

After watching No Fire Zone on Channel 4 I don't understand why anyone is there other than to arrest its leaders and put them on trial for war crimes.

If he weren't there, would the protests have gained any kind of air time? At least more people will be made aware of the human rights issues the Tamil community have struggled with.

5Live had a very distressing lunchtime programme yesterday about torture in Sri Lanka since the end of the civil war.

My initial reaction to Cameron going was that the Commonwealth meet should have been moved but on balance I think his attendance might keep the story in the news which is important. I'd like to think it would be big news anyway but clearly that has not been the case.

In Australia we are all seeing Cameron as a bit of a hero because he visited the north and talked about human rights abuses. Our appalling Prime Minister Tony Abbott fawned over the Sri Lankans and gave them two huge navy boats to chase asylum seekers with.
