BBC are now saying that a car has crashed into the gates at the white house

It's not yet clear if the shots were fired by the perpetrator or by law enforcement.

It seems a car attempted to ram a building, a chase ensued and shots were fired. The perpetrator is reported to be dead, and one police officer injured.

Some reports say they was a child in the car.

Motive not known. Incident over, but some areas will remain cordoned off for some time to come.
