IPCC report: Why is no one on Mumsnet talking about climate change?

Was very surprised to see hardly any talk about climate change on here, following on from the latest IPCC report. Are none of you worried about your kids' future or is everyone just sticking their heads in the sand?

It makes me panic to think what lies ahead for my DC if no one acts. Come on Mumsnet, how about a ground up campaign to try and get the govt. and the nation to tackle this elephant in the room head on?

As a family, we are doing what we can to cut back on energy usage - but we are just four people and I'm feeling pretty hopeless about the whole situation at the moment when nobody else seems to care about the future.

If you watch this video of some of the adverts that promote climate change through the use of fear and exclusion then I believe that you can't fail to see how desperate the lie is, that they need to stoop to such a level to try and con children that it is real

And adverts aren't science, but they are very indicative of what the spinners are trying to do to scare people into following their con, and indicate that they are losing the core scientific arguments which are not convincing the public and so they have to ramp up their propaganda

And if you follow it long enough, you will notice that the same politicians, actors, directors and pop stars are always used in the push to convince the public.

The cat is out of the bag, there are many people who believe it is a con and a scam. And now we have politicians like the Prime Minister of Australia reported as saying that manmade global warming is bunkum. Over time more politicians will join him. UKIP don't swallow it. Some politicians will respond by saying we have only 40 days left to save the planet, but like the boy who cried wolf, the more hysterical the claims, the less the public will believe them. The more obvious the fear-mongering propagandistic adverts, the more the public will laugh. Eventually some politicians will break ranks and report to the elite that they do not wish to commit harikari by continuing with the pretence and they will fear for their seats.

When parties like UKIP start saying that they will cut spending on this and slash the carbon taxes, then other politicians will be forced to begin to do the same or they will lose their seats because the public don't believe in the dire threats of cataclysmic catastrophe. In Australia the socialists were swept away when lifelong socialist voters switched their allegiance because of the socialists' attempt to implement the carbon tax.

Eventually the "tipping point" will be passed and even politicians won't be able to justify spending public taxpayer money on it, and then the house of cards will collapse.

But it won't be easy for the people to come out winners because

'The financial markets are humanity’s only hope in the battle against global warming, the world’s top climate expert declared today"

and they stand to gain billions of dollars. But if the "financial markets" are our only hope, then we may as well give up now because we all know what they did and what they are like. The public won't buy it, no matter which doom and gloom IPCC document thumping street corner salesman or political spin doctor is preaching catastrophe and armageddon. They can scream and shout doom and gloom until they lose their voices, but the public won't listen to the siren voices of the hoarse men of the Apocalyse.

BIL is also a climate scientist, Dodo (not your Dh though -- I don't think!) and shares your frustration; though, as he says, it would be much more comfortable to feel that it was all just a load of spin.
