Acid attacks

Have you been following the news about the acid attacks in Zanzibar? I have been to Zanzibar (in 2004 though) and it seemed an "easy" place to visit.

It seems as though acid attacks are becoming more common but are usually done by someone known to the victim (and in areas where this sort of thing gets less coverage).

Friend were there in Feb and said they wouldn't go back, there was an unwelcoming atmosphere and the locals were so poor that they felt uncomfortable in their posh hotel.
