first he jumps on the sun bandwagon over the deportation of offenders who've served their sentences.

now he starts talking about not raising the overall level of taxation.

what next?

I don't think anyone seems to know their party traditions any more! Blair seems to be Tory, Cameron seems to be stuck in a green-socialist phase and as for Menzies.... ! And I say that as a paid up, newspaper delivering, volunteering Lib Dem.

Polling shows that Campbell has made a disastrous start, really awful. May Lib Dem MPs are in naturally Tory consitituencies and they'll lose at the next election if they don't do something, so they've done something. I don't think he's a closet Tory, just a politician without many principles and that's the norm.
That's what happens when you elect a leader in the sort of situation the Lib Dems found themselves in, they've got the wrong guy and they're going to get thrashed next time around. They had their moment and they missed it. Shame really as they're a good conscience pricker for both the main parties.

Didn't vote for Menzies and considered leaving when he got in, but I think the competition was an issue.... I voted for Simon but a lot of people took issue with him for his private life. had there been someone more dynamic then they'd have probably got in, but it was unlikely someone with a genuine political hop would stick their necks out when the party was still in the whole Kennedy alcohol slump (my opinion only)
