Has America gone too far - re Morales?

I am normally quite pro-american but am starting to feel that the US is bullying Europe. Whatever about Snowden, the case of Morales plane being diverted and Spanish and French airspace being effectively closed to the presidents flight is frankly very disturbing. I used to like Obama but his reaction to the allegations of Prism spying on the EU leaders was supercilious at best.
What do you think?

Hopefully it will encourage him to give Snowden asylum. It's outrageous how whistleblowers have been treated under the Obama administration, it's not surprising that European countries bow to US demands. They're all on the same side, the side of power and domination, people like Snowden threaten that by enlightening the people with reality.

I am still confused as to what enlightening information Snowden is supposed to have revealed. That the US is spying on us all? That's been known for some time. America has gone too far for some time, not starting with 9/11.

well, clearly you can't be a very nice person if you 'want' to be President of USofA. (I am American btw).

On the other hand, sometimes leaders have to be super paranoid. I don't think it's right, but I'm sure it's just a natural reaction to being president after the Bush Administration. I miss the Clinton days.

sorry for posting my comment twice. also, I do see how inane my comment is--it's just that Bush was such a super bully...everyone in the last few elections have been super bully types too.

It's now become more an issue of deterrence for the US. If they don't make an example out of Snowden and people like Manning then the fear is that others will leak state secrets and run to Bolivia/wherever.

That said...I completely disagree with the way the US have gone about it. You can't throw your weight around with other sovereign nations and still try to take the moral high ground.

I also was pro-USA for years, but they lost the moral high ground for me a long time ago with the continuing Guantanamo Bay farce... That place is so far away from what they used to stand for, (truth/justice) that it is just scary.

Sadly, I liked Clinton as well. I really wasn't fussed about the cheating thing - loads of presidents/politicians cheated on their spouses (JFK anyone?) and some openly had mistresses. That's between them and their wives. But he was clever and dealt with foreign policy well IMO.

Didn't like either Bush Sr or Jr and don't like Obama.

(I'm an American too) And yes, America does seem to have too many fingers in too many pies. They long ago lost the moral high ground - if they really ever had it to begin with tbh.

It's news that the US and UK governments are conducting mass surveillance on everyone, not merely suspected criminals/terrorists. It's news that they are merrily flouting their own laws and quite possibly international laws too. It's news that they are conducting mass surveillance on their allies as well as their enemies.

It's news that in supposedly democratic countries that have laws about these things and that apparently uphold the rule of law, governments have been cheerfully ignoring the law and ignoring democracy. Our current government, and the last one, kept trying to introduce legislation to allow them to expand surveillance - now we realise they were actually doing it all along without bothering to wait to get any new laws through. Maybe the proposed new laws were just a distraction, a pretence that Big Brother was still fiction?

When you put it like that edam, 'tis frightening.
