News just breaking on the BBC website that one of my favourite authors Iain Banks has died.

A very sad loss to all those who loved his work and of course his friends and family.

Just seen this on Twitter. So sad.

What a shame, so soon after his announcement.

Oh, that is quick after his announcement isn't it? How sad.

Yes, it does seem it wasn't that long since he announced he was ill. I think he had hoped he would live to see his latest book published. Very sad.

RIP Iain Banks.
In interviews he always came across as such a nice chap.
I am very sad that there will be no more 'Culture' novels.

That's so sad. He was a fantastic author and came across as such a lovely man.

How sad, and so soon after his announcement.

That's such a shame; he was my favourite sci-fi author by a mile.

I saw him a couple of times at the Edinburgh Book festival and he came across as such a nice person. Yes, peach is right, another creative mind lost indeed.

I went to a talk/ booksigning in uni twenty years ago - he asked me for a drink. Wish I hadn't been too shy/ starstruck/ shocked to go.

I met him a couple of times - just a lovely bloke, an asset to the human race.

RIP, Mr Banks. A great loss to literature.

I remember having lunch with my parents and brothers, one Sunday. My elder bro pulled out a copy of The Wasp Factory - very recently published. It was passed round the family as we each read those extraordinary comments in the first 4 or 5 pages. The next day, we each went out and bought our own copies! I have every Iain Banks and Iain M Banks.

Very sad.
