Animal testing

After reading \link{http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/uk/4767875.stm\this}, I think it is time the anti-testing lobby started offering themselves up as guinea pigs rather than going around intimidating innocent people because they disagree with where they invest their money. I don't understand how some of these self appointed protectors of animals quite happily attack their fellow human beings whilst at the same time protest passionately at violence against animals.

I personally have nothing against animal testing for medical treatment and those protesting against it would have more credibility if they agreed to eschew any treatment that involved test on animals for themselves and their loved ones. But they won't.

My neighbour's house was attacked because somehow they found out about him having shares in Huntington Science. The fact that his young son was in the house at the time did not bother these malevolent micreants. If something is not done about these self righteous bullies, the UK might as well stop teaching the sciences that are a pre-requisite for a career in pharmaceutical research. Surely it is wrong that people who have studied and worked hard to gain qualifications and who choose to work in pharmaceutical research, should live in fear because of the the work they do?

My SIL just finished her PhD in Biological Sciences at Oxford and had to keep very quiet about the work she was doing. She has now gone to the USA to do a post-doc and feels that a heavy burden has been lifted. If something is not done about these people, the UK can kiss goodbye to its pharmaceutical industry. The whole thing makes me lividAngry.
