I've just had a quick look at the Sky News App on my phone and there's a story about a 5 year old girl in China that jumped out of a 6th storey window with an open umbrella. It's assumed that she was copying cartoon characters who land safely using an open umbrella as a parachute.
They have posted a picture of the poor little girl lying on the floor next to the umbrella. She is currently in a critical condition.
If this was an English child, or it had happened in England, there wouldn't be a photo.
I remember years ago I saw a photo of a man holding a 4 year old boy that he snatched from the mum as a hostage in a country in the far east. The photo showed the boy's face clearly and he looked terrified. Upon reading the story I discovered that the boy's throat had been slit and he died seconds after the picture was taken
Why is it necessary to publish these photos? These images stay with me and I find it so disturbing. There was no link to the photo of the little girl lying lifeless, with a warning, it is right at the top of the story.
I wish that I hadn't read the world news now.
