Tory scum about to unleash a sh*tstorm of destructive policies over Easter - who wants to bet on riots?

The 'Bedroom tax', Universal Credit, and various other welfare and public service cuts to be implemented in the coming weeks and months.

Tens of thousands of people will be utterly f**ked by this government. What do you think is going to happen?

The last time the Conservatives had a majority was 20(?) years go. Who wants to bet they'll never have one again?

What pisses me off is that they never got a majority in the first place and yet have managed to push their nasty, shitty agenda through anyway.

What's more people are falling for their propaganda BS. On facebook the other day some lovely person had created a page called 'Get a job you fat slag'. It was about a woman who claims disability benefits. Underneath, the man who had created this page wrote 'I hope David Cameron cuts all benefits and wipes the smiles off everyone's faces'.

Why do people like this assume that they themselves are NOT IMMUNE from losing their job or becoming ill or disabled????

Line, not paying Council Tax doesn't affect credit ratings as far as I know, but councils do have the power to put charges on houses, etc. I know in my LA they have taken on more bailiffs etc due to the expected increase of people who will be in arrears.

There will be children in rags again like in the 80s.

i was truly shocked and dismayed when i (admittedly tongue in cheekily) asked my dad if he was joining the 400+ who have pledged to march through our ex steel town tomorrow.

he was made redundant in the early '80s as Thatcher crushed the unions, a shop steward at the time, he fought for jobs and pension rights, and they won!

he and my mum had to feed me, (now ex) DH and our 2 DSs as the Poll Tax brought us to near destitution overnight.

his reply to me when i asked about tomorrow's protest marches?

'it doesn't affect me'

a little bit of me died

I am sorry to say the councils who have so far promised "No evictions" are welcome supporters but largely pointless gestures, wait for it cos she is coming again....thatcher in her drive to sell council houses left few routes for social housing to be provided. The only route worth anything was housing associations.

By and large they are all sitting on their hands crying about how they will be the fall guy as on one hand they will get less rent as a result of people not being able to pay and getting in to arrears, but yet they will now not be paid directly as HB will be paid direct to the tenant and they know full well that this will mean some people will start building up rent arrears. However their solution is to claim it is they who are hard done by, but still steam ahead with court proceedings to get money arrears which they know they will never get as the claimant will never have it. So we need to tell housing associations who are now acting more as outright business rather than housing cooperatives (which is where many of them started.) to get off the fence, stop feeling sorry for themselves and stick up for the people who they house.

Incidentaly many housing associations have consolidated in to massive large housing providers, so your local one may not be a small friendly independent after all. Check out places for people www.placesforpeople.co.uk/

Don'tmind, the police weren't very relaxed about the student marches in 2011, and they had snow.

WRT riots, I think these are more likely to happen when people start actually experiencing the reality of what these cuts mean, and that won't happen until the summer onwards on a large scale imo.

lottie-

There are Bedroom Tax protests going on tomorrow:

www.greenbenchesuk.com/2013/03/a-massive-53-bedroomtax-protests-this.html

And there will be many many more throughout the spring and summer. As soon as I get more info about 'The Big One', I'll post it here.

It's the same with the privatisation of the NHS, people are at the moment blinkered, confused and complacent. Because of the way the legislation is written any changes are local and any opposition will go unreported anyway.

you walking to London UnChartered? Wow. I'm going on my local one tomorrow because I have a bus pass (cue usual palaver over wheelchair space on bus) but London for a central massive demo, which I think is vital as well, would be impossible for many people. When UKUncut and others organise coaches they forget about disabled people. And train fares now appear to be the price of the train, not renting a seat for a few hours!

Brilliant, thanks ttosca.

I think part of the problem is that when everyone is faced with financial difficulty they stop caring about what is happening to everyone else. The tories have shafted just about anyone who isn't in a really highly paid job (except pensioners, but I've heard they will home in on them too if they get in in 2015). Lots of people have been made redundant and last year a lot of people who are not highly paid lost tax credits and suddenly had to cope without them when they were needed. People therefore don't have as much compassion for others because they're trying to hold everything together at home. It is a mess.

i did!

about 200 people at it's peak, and it was lovely - good natured, welcoming and so many different folk there

there was a platform for some to tell their personal stories and we sang 'the bedroom tax' song

pity it was snowing, more would have come if it hadn't been, i'm sure

Well done Uncharted, sounds like a good event. Which one was it? The Edinburgh one was so big that the Polis had to delay the start lol. They were expecting about 200 and something close to a thousand turned up. Now I wonder where they might have got that idea from (whistles as he shuffles away as quick as poss)
