Buggies blown away by the wind - advice needed

Hi, I've got a question about lightweight buggies - has anyone here had problems with their buggies being blown away by the wind? And would anyone recommend getting a heavier pram specifically to avoid them being blown by the wind? Any advice, tips or comments would be gratefully received! Cheers

I think all buggies are vulnerable to being blown away. There is a terrible news story I saw today about a child who died when the buggy blew into the road

I read it too mistress (love that episode BTW) truly heart breaking, and haven't we all done it? even if we didn't nip back in the house, left it a few feet away to pick up dog poo etc, post a letter. My DD has blown over in her buggy before, I wouldn't get a heavy one specifically for the wind, but I would never leave it's side again :(

and that news story was a 3 year old, so no lightweight

My Phil & Teds came with a strap which went around the handle and the users wrist - I think many of the free wheeling jogging buggies come with one.

If all buggies had them, you could remain attached but also go hands free. As soon as the buggy moves you can respond, and if the wind catches it, it can't go too far.

I saw the news too... That poor mother must be beside herself.

Those straps are now compulsary on all buggies in Australia after a child's buggy went off a railway station platform. It would be good if it was the same here. I would think they would be extremely cheap for manufacturers to add to buggies and they would be a great visual reminder. Everyone lets go the buggy at some stage.

We bought one of these buggy tug wrist strap for our buggy.

Not because of problems with the wind, but because we live on a hill, and I was worried about the possibility of stumbling and losing my grip on the buggy when going downhill.

I know because of the recent news story it's a particularly serious subject but I can't help but mention that I misread it as budgies blown away in the wind.

I've had my old pram (heavy Urban Detour) blown over, but luckily I managed to catch it before it went right over. I had the rainshield over it and was walking next to a very open field by the sea.

Be sensible, hold on firmly in the bad weather and obviously weighting down the basket could be of use, but it could happen to any pram.

Sad story.

and don't leave buggies unattended...

Sadly, having a strap attaching buggy to the parent will not stop all tragedies - in some cases the parents choose to walk away, and I honestly think they still would "take the risk" and nip back in the house or turn around to attend to another DC, even if it meant having to undo a strap.

also this is no new thing - I was talking to an elderly lady whose baby and toddler in a huge pram blew into a river 50 years ago - luckily it flotaed along, baby still asleep - and was rescued by a fast acting fisherman!

Bugaboo come with a wrist strap. I think parental vigilance is the only thing that helps tbh - but nobody will hold a buggy all the time. The mother in this case was desperately unlucky not careless.

indeed. Very unlucky in freak conditions.

don't leave a buggy unattended in a high wind, same as you don't put one in the middle of a field in a thunderstorm. Check out the wind direction and shelter behind something.

buying something heavier gives a much higher chance of a back injury when you have to lift or push the thing.
