and it is not a human story, not in the MN sense. It is about extinction of the Polar Bear, the Baiji dolphin my two most important animals and many more.

this is our planet

i hate reading anything like this - what future for our children/grandchildren?

expatinscotland · 01/05/2006 19:56

not a good one if you continue to buy fish that's been harvested by these means, meat that's not been ethically farmed, food that's been flown in from abroad, overpopulation, etc.

expatinscotland · 01/05/2006 19:58

I didn't mean that as a personal insult, cazzy, just that I believe people can make a difference one by one, no matter how small, when possible.

Papillon · 01/05/2006 20:38

good question though, what future? Because I don´t think our culture(s) do. China does not - the Baiji has been threatened for many years.

and we don´t eat them and they are a fish :(

Expat is right. Hand wringing won't make a difference. Buying locally, buying in season, not stuffing cod and haddock fish fingers into your kids when fish stocks are on the verge of collapse, trading in your chelsea tractor for a smart (or even walking your kids to school - shock horror), going on holiday in this country... Every single one of us makes a difference to the environment. Asia and Africa won't listen to a bunch of hypocrites in the West.

Good points Callisto and expat. Think globally, act locally, as they say.
