The Guardian (yes, I am a Guardian reader [bblush]) reports this today...which shocked me. Not sure whether this has already been discussed in another thread.

It reminds me of the tactics of a certain nurse who brought out loads of parenting books. Treat 'em mean to get them into a routine.

How could anyone think that was ok let alone someone in a "caring" job.

I heard this on the radio on way home from work, except they said "face" rather than "mouth". I thought that they surely couldn't mean taped in place in the baby 's mouth. Looks like that is exactly it. Horrific.

Just heard on the news that the baby was admitted to hospital due to breathing difficulties

This is just the tip of an unbelievably big iceberg - Stafford hospital should be razed to the ground and all staff sacked or asked to reapply for their own jobs, from the chief exec down to the porters and cleaners The culture of patient disrespect and arse covering there is truly shocking, but it's endemic sadly.

Its appalling that a nurse should think this was acceptable. But then I also see parents propping bottles up so they don't have to hold it while they feed or using soft toys to hold a dummy into a child's mouth. Both equally as dangerous if the child vomits.

But just to point out that I'm not sure it it was a qualified nurse or a nursing auxilary. And if it's the latter, there is no regulation or no 'process' to make sure that he or she never works in a 'caring' environment again if they aren't prosecuted over this. They are often untrained so there is every possibility that they didn't pass 'anything'

I agree, but tbh I think it´s dreadful that anyone would even think of it-let alone do it!

Was there not a full public inquiry opened in 2010 into the standards of care of the same hospital? I have not followed it though...

Awful and disgusting. What if the baby had vomited? Neither of my children wanted a dummy, so I am no expert, but damn!
