I met him as a 14yr old. Very tall, very gracious.

He made The Sky At Night come alive.

Sad How sad to know we've lost another great mind and a very special man.

The world has lost a star and it will be a duller place without you.

Rest in peace does not seem quite the right wish for someone who made their living talking and being enthusiastic.

Your enthusiasm touched me and, I had the honour to meet you as a student.

Even though, in the end I didn't study astrophysics, a bit of my heart always looks towards the stars and in memory of you the moon.Sad

How sad :(
I remember going to talk he gave locally a few years back; a very interesting and inspiring man.

I read on another forum an account of a man who asked his mother for a telescope for his birthday.
What one to buy?
His mother decided to write to Patrick to ask his advice.
To her surprise she got a letter back inviting the family to his home (they didn't live far from him) and upon arriving he made them very welcome then talked to them about the various telescopes available and gave his advice, after which he insisted the stop for their tea.
His infectious enthusiasm for his chosen field never wained.
He was a one of a kind and is sadly missed.

Do you think he checked to make sure they weren't 'wops, eyeties or frogs first'?
