did anyone else listen to radio 2 today and the discussion of the allegations of child abuse in Wales?

just wondered if anyone else here heard the victims that phoned in

I'm feeling sick from what I heard

absolutely horrendous abuse of youngsters with no one to help them

one man in his 50's told a story he's never been able to tell before..he was 10 yrs old....he can't even tell his wife of 30 years

I really hope against hope these victims get some justice and these totally barbaric individuals are brought to justice

this is one of the most sickening things I've ever heard

honestly it was awful, the woman interviewing sounded like she couldnt get a breath, she was gasping in shock and horror

horrific, have never heard another human being tell such awful things in obvious pain and agony, the poor poor man

Yes,I heard it as I was driving and had to pull over as I was in tears.I do hear first person accounts like that very often in my job,but that man was so obviously speaking for the first time,and he spoke,emotionally,as the 10 year old he had been. It was unbelievably disturbing. I have wondered about him today,and hope he has support at home .

I did. It was dreadfully upsetting. Very powerful testimony. It was almost too much for lunchtime radio and the presenter was struggling.
I too hope he has help, although its clear the help he wants most is to see those ...men punished.

I heard it, that poor man. It's haunted me all day.
Fair play to them for letting him be so explicit, imagine bottling that up for so many years, and being afraid of falling apart in a moment if anyone found out.

I heard that coming up and had to switch off as I didn't want DS hearing it.
However it has made me think of something.

In 2004 I worked at an event at a Hotel near Hay on Wye on the Welsh borders. A young man who worked with us told us that he remembered coming there twenty years before. He had been a teenager living in Brighton. He told us that he and lots of other boys (I'm not sure of their ages but under 18) used to be bussed up from Brighton on a weekend to 'party' with Tory MPs at this hotel.

He laughed about it, I thought it was a bit shocking. The set up there is dorms in the attic and big lavish bedrooms with seventies style circular baths in some of the bedrooms. You could tell what the set up would have been.

Now I'm wondering if I should mention this to anyone. I don't know the man's name though but obviously do know the hotel.

My God it is harrowing to hear. Particularly the poor second man who'd never spoken about the abuse before or told his wife. He's got such courage to speak about it now.

Those bastards MUST be brought to account. That poor man deserves justice.
This MUST never be allowed to happen again.

Journalist Sonia Poulton (who wrote this) wants to speak to people for TV

I think everyone should have to listen to what that man had to say,the world needs to be shocked by this to get something done about the perpetrators

Not having a go at anyone in particular, but isn't this the message of all the recent revelations? i.e. stop wondering and start mentioning. From all the accounts coming out about various people at various times there appear to have been lots of witnesses with an indirect involvement. The hospital porter, the night nurse, the TV researcher... They might not have had the full story, they might only have a piece of the jigsaw, but if enough of them come forward with enough pieces there's a case for prosecution rather than just rumour or suspicion.

I heard the interview, I started a thread in chat at the time which was probably the wrong place but I said then I think it was the most heartbreaking thing I've ever heard and I think 'billy' was so so brave to ring up then and talk about that

I think you are right ssd I think people do need to hear it no matter how hard to listen to it may be because there needs to be some justice - and we need to make sure it can't happen again .

Children in care who have already had the worst start in life and they are meant to be being looked after, it just breaks your heart.

Jane garvey said they would make sure bilky is given some help now, i really hope he is ok and realises how much we are all supporting him and the others.

Oh, I couldn't see a thread at the time & ended up going to the radio2 fb page to comment/speak to others who had heard Billy's story. Poor, poor man - to have not been able to tell anybody all this time - even his wife of 24 years. I think the graphic account of his physical agony/mess was what has haunted me, recounts on the media usually are missing those details so that they are slightly sanitised versions. I think Jane Garvey was worried about how graphic he was being on a lunch time programme/feeling out of her depth and I just hope that her haste to get him off air hasn't put him off telling his story again i.e hope he doesn't interpret it as disgust & that Radio 2 were able to get him some help.
