PARIS RIOTS - Due to visit in two weeks - should we go?

We are all booked up and ready to visit in two weeks' time.
DH was reading a newspaper yesterday and there was an article in it warning tourists to stay away because of the Paris riots.
Not sure what we are going to do now.

Good god,it's perfectly safe!
Don't worry about it.
They are just covering their own backs.

I live near the border with Iraq and have bird flu and Kurdish freedom fighters to contend with yet have never felt safer!

My sister lives in France-not Paris however,and she laughed(kindly) when I said that some Brits were concerned.

Things do get magnified in the media I guess.
We are going to Mont St Michel for one night and then Marne La Vallee for three nights. Not sure how they are affected.

Thanks. Just hope that we will be able to visit Paris while we are there though. Can't go to France without climbing the Eiffel Tower can wek? Even if I have an extreme phobia of heights.

DD lives in the 7th, right next to the Eiffel Tower, right in the midst of the poshest area. Lots of demos on the green outide her Uni, but she doesn't feel threatened. There is a big police presence, all in riot gear with shields etc, and french police carry guns all the time anyway, so nothing unusual there.

Big demo planned for Tuesday, but it is well contained by the police and they clear the streets really quickly.

Last week picking her littles up from school they did get affected by a lot of CS gas on the metro, which was a bit scarey for her when she has a 18 month old, 3 year old and a 5 year old in her care, but she takes it all in her stride.

Her boyfriend and friend are visiting this weekend and they have walked 10 miles round Paris, no problem, except knacker4ed!

She has 2 girl friends coming out next week too, they are all excited at being back together!

We're going in a week, going to stay in Paris (prob 20th or 19th arron? Not sure yet!). Not bothered about riots, will pay attention and try to stay away from any trougble.

I misunderstood that thread title--thought you were asking if anyone wanted to join you in some revolutionary activity!

Will you really climb the ET? I don't have a problem with heights but only made it to the first landing. It was after the bomb scares there a couple of years ago and I couldn't help thinking it would be the most spectacular target - and it was a long way down! Dh, DS1 and DS2(age 7) all made it to the top and back safely.

I hope to go up. I would be very proud of myself to come home and say that I had done it! Not sure if my legs will do it though.

thought I heard on news that RyanAir and some others have cancelled flights to Paris (though was half asleep so could be imagining it.)

It's two weeks today that we go so plenty of time for things to change. DDs and I are really excited so hope we don't get let down.
