Really?

This is great news. Was sure he'd be found dead soon.

Hope he's ok - he's quite elderly, isn't he?

mumatuks · 23/03/2006 10:00

Wow! I'm amazed, he got out alive. When did they announce that?

donnie · 23/03/2006 10:01

jack Straw was just on news 24 confirming it - honest, I'm not making this up!!!!if you look on yahoo! news now it'll have some info.

brilliant

well done the troops!

pashmina · 23/03/2006 10:34

just heard this on the news, fantastic! I really didn't think he was going to get out. I really hope he doesn't return to Iraq. And I hope he thanks the security forces for getting him out, .

jessicaandrebeccasmummy · 23/03/2006 10:35

This just proves what a FAB job the forces are doing out there regardless of whether we believe they should be there or not.

Well done boys.... heroes welcome when you get home xxx

FairyMum · 23/03/2006 10:36

Great. Hope no more idiots go on superhero trips to Iraq to "help out".

beetroot · 23/03/2006 10:37

hmm, not sure it proves that Jess!

But brill news. Didnt think he woudl be out alive

tortoiseshell · 23/03/2006 10:39

Really pleased - I thought there was no way he would be released, so surprised and happy!

jessicaandrebeccasmummy · 23/03/2006 10:39

Sorry, I am slightly biased, but the guys out there have got it seriously hard, and the families harder.

They are all heroes the lot of them...... imo of course.

cod · 23/03/2006 10:39

wowowowoow
fnatastic news!

edam · 23/03/2006 10:40

Thank God. What a fantastic surprise. And wonderful contrast to the earlier kidnappings covered in the UK media.

zephyrcat · 23/03/2006 10:41

Really, really fantastic news!! I'm so pleased for him!!

Marina · 23/03/2006 10:46

That is just wonderful news and such a lovely surprise. Norman Kember is an inspirational figure and I'm also delighted the two Canadian colleagues are safe and well also. Deo gratias :)

katierocket · 23/03/2006 10:47

It is great but sad that the American that was taken hostage with them was found dead a few weeks ago.

foxinsocks · 23/03/2006 10:48

I do feel sorry for the American woman (think it was a woman?). I imagine it may have been her death that prompted the rescue.

katierocket · 23/03/2006 10:49

no it was a man

"The body of murdered US citizen Tom Fox was found in Baghdad two weeks ago."

zephyrcat · 23/03/2006 10:50

That side of it is so sad. I had nightmares for weeks after Ken Bigley :(

foxinsocks · 23/03/2006 10:51

thanks katie - I couldn't remember. We obviously had the same thought at the same time.

aelita · 23/03/2006 11:01

It must be doubly hard for Tom Fox's family knowing he was the only one that didn't make it. I think there's a strong irony in the fact that this group went out as peace activists, presumably anti-war, and ended up being rescued by the very troops whose presence they oppose....

Marina · 23/03/2006 11:03

Yes, it must a be a grim day for the Fox family :(
It was the death of Margaret Hassan that haunted me tbh (although Ken Bigley's was awful too).

Lio · 23/03/2006 11:04

What amazing news, couldn't bring myself to have any hope on this one.

EvesMama · 23/03/2006 11:06

was it a rescue operation or a release?

foxinsocks · 23/03/2006 11:08

rescue by multinational troop effort

expatinscotland · 23/03/2006 11:28

well done, troops!
