Absolutely devastated to hear that 'the Prof' has died of cancer. Such a great loss. He was an incredible man - both in his role as F1 medic and as a hospital consultant. A great personality and I dont think we will see his like again.

Hope that something significant done by F1 community past and present to commemorate him as he did so much for the sport. Saw him last on Sky F1 show at Silverstone where Martin Brundle stopped him as he was passing by them in the paddock before start of race and both he and Johnny Herbert thanked him for what he had done for them personally, as both had been in accidents which could have lost them limbs.

Read both the prof's books about his time in F1 - fantastic reading. Apparently he was writing his memoirs, but dont know how far he got and if they will be published.

DH and I are sad too today, massive F1 fans and fans of the great man...........huge loss to motorsport. Sad

He seemed to be such a gentleman.........so many people in F1 owe him a huge amount.

Loving your username by the way - DC3 (a boy) is due in 10 days and I am STILL trying to convince DH that Ayrton IS an acceptable middle name!! Grin

Oh no. Sad Terrible news-I didn't know he was ill. Sad

Thanks for posting this.

Certainly an interesting man and a great loss, although I don't follow F1 I knew about his involvement.

Might get hold of his books, I didn't know he'd written anything.

I think renaming the medical centre at Silverstone would be a nice memorial.

He was such an influential figure in safety in motorsport and there would have been many more deaths in the modern motorsport era without him.

Sad so sad to hear this news. I thought his contribution to the Senna film was fascinating and when he talked about the crash I just sobbed.

Likewise hope F1 community honour his memory

Urban - what a lovely idea to call DC3 Ayrton as middle name - would have loved to use it for one of our DCs. I could watch the film 'Senna' on a loop - just hoping that they do release a special edition of the film with the 5 hours they cut - know lots of people who would buy it.
Silly - a fantastic idea to rename the medical centre at Silverstone after him, or was thinking about the 'un named corner' at Spa being named after him.
The Wave - books are called 'Life at the Limit' and 'Beyond the Limit'.

I only know of him from the Senna film, but his contribution appears to have been huge. RIP.
