Here on the BBC. What a sad end to such a dreadful story. Feel very moved, even though it all happened before I was even alive. Poor poor woman.

It's a great pity she had to be tormented in her last days by the hope that her son's burial place would be found.
Intellectually I am against the dealth penalty. But if only its abolition could have been slightly delayed. We would have been spaerd Hindley's loathsome, self-serving pretence of remorse and reform. And Mrs Bennett would not have spent the rest of her life being toyed with. Sometimes there is evil in the world and it is best to snuff it out. I'm afraid Brady and Hindley were 2 examples.

I saw her once in a McDonald's in Fallowfield Manchester where she used to work. I cannot drive past Saddleworth without thinking about the case.

At least she is with her son now.

'It's a great pity she had to be tormented in her last days by the hope that her son's burial place would be found.'

The report says that she (thankfully) didn't know of the developments in the case as she was too ill. I get quite angry when the press publicise Brady's apparent remorseful remembrances as I think they are just playing into his narcissistic hands.

How heartbreaking that she never got to lay her son to rest properly. :( I don't normally believe in an afterlife, but this situation makes me really hope I'm wrong and they're together now.

crypes · 18/08/2012 22:08

hopefully they are now reunited at last. what a brave lady.

KarlosKKrinkelbeim · 18/08/2012 22:14

I'm very glad to hear that she was ignorant of these developments.
I grew up in the NW of England and her tortured appearances on the local news were a fairly regular occurrence. At all events she is at peace now, poor lady.

EldritchCleavage · 18/08/2012 22:41

I feel for her, and for her other child(ren)-lives completely distorted by this terrible crime. I do wish the tasteless serial killer fascination would go out of fashion, the family must have suffered with it over the years.

RIP Winnie

RIP Keith

So sad. Pretty speechless here tonight.

tribpot · 19/08/2012 00:11

I'm so glad to know she didn't find out about these latest developments. One, final act of cruelty that at least she was spared.

flyingunderpants · 19/08/2012 14:47

MissM it is really sad that Winnie died, before her beloved son Keith was found.
But it's not the end of the story, not until Keith's body is found. He has younger siblings that will not give up searching. They still need all the support they can get.
RIP Winnie and Keith.I hope you are both together at last.

MissM · 19/08/2012 19:10

That's true Flying, I hadn't thought of that. Just so utterly cruel for her to be denied any kind of peace. I don't really believe in an afterlife, but at times like this I hope I'm wrong and she is with her son.

ive just watched the documentaties. im in the police, i know that evil exists, and im fundamentally against the death penalty, but in this case, i would make an exception.

i feel that though she did not lay her boy to rest, she will be with him now, and it will no longer matter to her, or to keith.

utter utter fucking bastard. i wish he would just die and do those families a favour.

Londonista1975 · 20/08/2012 23:18

I don't understand how the letter can be lost?

ThatVikRinA22 · 20/08/2012 23:20

i believe that there is something after, my sister visited me after she died, so i believe, and it gives me great comfort, and i feel that after we leave this planet what happened here doesnt matter much anymore.

The latest information on this sad case can be found on here, a forum managed by Keith's brother.

NPPF · 21/08/2012 12:11

I have just looked at that forum and I am shocked by what is said about GMP.

Greythorne · 21/08/2012 21:08

Does anyone know why Brady continues to be fed intravenously?

He is on hunger strike. Why not let him die?

I don't understand the allocation of resources to keep him alive.

Puzzled.

tribpot · 22/08/2012 17:57

This article from the Independent in 1999 suggests basically it's down to him being in a secure unit of a hospital and not a prison.
