Oh I'm so sorry to hear that. I am Irish and met her once, she was lovely and always very funny, yet wise, when she appeared on TV.

Oh, I'm sorry to hear that. Her books are good in a comforting, bowl of soup kind of way.

BlueFergie · 31/07/2012 10:21

Sad news. Many a happy hour spent reading her books as a teenager. Used to save them for the summer holidays. RIP Maeve, a true Irish storyteller.

RIP Sad

I'm sad to hear it too.

Bowl of soup way sums it up brilliantly Smile

She was so liked and respected, may she rest in peace

So sad, brings back teen memories for me too. My DM would take a Binchy on holiday and we'd all read it after her - sometimes DF too!

I remember reading Light a Penny Candle in a tent in the south of France...

AgentProvocateur · 31/07/2012 15:04

Yes, agree she was the author of my teenage years. Loved her books. RIP

I'm really sorry to hear this - what a lot of comfort and light she brought to many through her books

SrirachaGirl · 31/07/2012 16:35

Tara Road and Scarlet Feather are my "comfort" reads when I'm in a funk.

How sad Sad.

BigBandwitch · 31/07/2012 16:35

Yeah, I read Light a Penny Candle and Echoes when they came out, I was roughly 13 or 14.. they gave me such a taste for reading! I know her later work was not as good but those first books, wow. Also, The Glass Lake was really good.

GoldenGreen · 31/07/2012 16:37

I am really sorry to hear this too. Lots of summer holiday memories tied up with Binchy books. She seemed like a lovely person.
