Grrr - Powergen!

Have recently moved into a rented house, and have now established that our landlady has never switched her gas/electricity suppliers. British Gas and nPower. Shock

So I checked Uswitch yesterday and moved to Powergen. Who announced a 24% price increase this morning. Grrrr.

May be making use of the cooling off period.

Any recommendations?

Think you're pretty stuck with 18% minimum rise
You could try EDF energy, they are price freezing til 2008 we got speaking to a chap in a mall and switched, we're not saving any, BUT we are protected from increases til 2008.

IIRC from this morning's R5 broadcast, aren't you in line for a 43% increase if they provide both your gas and electricity? There again, it was very early ....

Check Uswitch again - they may have a different recommendation today.
Saying that, I used to work in this industry & British Gas Transco controls the gas supply prices to other suppliers. Basically, if they put theirs up they force every supplier to do the same so you may find all have gone up. If you can find someone with a prize freeze - go for it.

I just did mine and it came up with EDF/Seeboard and Powergen (who I'm already with) EDF looks good indeed...

Uswitch didn't look any different this morning, but I might wait a day or two and see what happens.

hi purple will watch with interest we're with powergen, have you registered your tesco clubcard?

poppiesinaline · 28/02/2006 20:25

Just moaned on another thread about this!!

We switched to Powergen a few months ago and have not been impressed so far with their prices. We are paying double what we were with our other supplier although they promised their charges would be lower Angry DH says we are in a capped rate though and their recent increase shouldn't affect us. Bit confused. How do we find out? Should be move again?

purpleturtle · 02/03/2006 13:39

Well, I've just checked uswitch again, and the Powergen thing I switched to is still there - albeit a couple of places further down the list. The other Powergen packages have gone. Think I'll stick with it for now. Have registered my Tesco clubcard, so at least I'll get a tiny weeny bit of benefit from that.
