Tony Blair for new PM. would it really be so bad?

I'm not the most politically minded so please all opinions welcome. Apart from 2 poorly thought out wars, was he so bad? The recession wasnt all his fault but a culmination of years of bad lending, high bonuses and the decisions of various governments.

AT least with TB it felt like we had a real government and pm. now we seem to have a bunch of clowns playing out their schoolboy fantasies and making us a laughing stock imo.

What do you think?

Yes

Portofino · 28/06/2012 12:38

Yes

PetiteRaleuse · 28/06/2012 12:40

The current government woul dhave done the same re the wars i'm afraid. Blair was better than what you have now.

That said, can't forgive him for Iraq and Afghanistan.

And don't forget it was his government that introduced tuition fees in the first place...

worldgonecrazy · 28/06/2012 12:42

Yes it really would be so bad. If the world were a fairer place he'd have been brought to trial at the Hague by now and wouldn't be available to be anyone's replacement PM.

orangina · 28/06/2012 12:43

Yes, yes, yes, would be TERRIBLE. It would be like saying that everything Blair did was all right, you can come back now, all is forgiven......

CraftyHana · 28/06/2012 12:43

I loved Blair and people forget..it's him we have to thank for not going into the ill fated Euro!

exexe · 28/06/2012 12:46

It doesn't bear thinking about.
I detest his smugness, his lies and his attitude that we're all stupid falling for his spin.

PhyllisDoris · 28/06/2012 12:48

OMG - Tony Blair for PM??? Christ no! Not ever, never.

ItsAllGoingToBeFine · 28/06/2012 12:48

Have you forgotten the lies to force an invasion of Iraq?

mumnosbest · 28/06/2012 12:54

maybe a case for 'better the devil you know. as has been said this (or prrobably any other gov) would have done the same thing. the tuition fees whilst not good were not nearly as bad as the cuts were facing now. From a teachers point of view i dont think he did too bad. education is certainly going down hill now and wont get any better with 70yr old teachers. when i need to be treated for my bad back which im going to get if im teaching at 70 i dont want to be seen by an old unhappy and underpaid nurse or doctor either!

Are you insane, were you actually here during his reign? The man made a huge personal fortune from dodgy deals done around those wars - he is as odious as odious can get. He should be tried as a war criminal not thinking of being PM again.

Holy f*ck! You'll be wanting Thatcher back next (and Blair was a Thatcherite pretending to be a leftie, perfect heir to Mrs. T).

chipmunksex · 28/06/2012 13:06

Has the idea been mooted?

It is very far fetched, but anything would be better than the oily ticks currently going around saying they were elected-when clearly they were not.

RichManPoorManBeggarmanThief · 28/06/2012 13:07

He'd have to be a Tory cos the labour party is too left wing for him now

Tony Blair MP is an anagram of "I'm Tory Plan B".

GossipWitch · 28/06/2012 13:08

plebby elected cameron, he should have gone brown .......

headfairy · 28/06/2012 13:08

I think he's the only real politician with a really political brain we've had for a generation (that doesn't mean I love him/agree with everything he said/want to see him back btw). Even Churchill had a catastrophic military skeleton in his closet, but didn't stop him becoming one of our most treasured PMs. I don't think we've seen the end of TB in this country.

mumnosbest · 28/06/2012 14:05

Agree with you headfairy. We don't seem to have many alternatives. If you don't like who we have or TB, who would you suggest?

OP posts:
TheOriginalSteamingNit · 28/06/2012 14:08

Yeah but David Cameron is an anagram of I'm a Massive Millionaire Wanker And I Hate Poor People. Probably.

Abra1d · 28/06/2012 14:09

Hmmm.

I personally like him, BUT:

He inherited a very strong economy. He didn't create it. He spent all the money on ill-thought out public spending expansion. Which has helped lead us to the situation where a lot of public sector people have now been laid-off, as we couldn't ever really afford them. Or their pensions.

Under his government private pensions were taxed to pay for the expansion above, leading more of us into pensions angst.

That Iraq war . . . That lie. Did he know he was lying to us?

Tony Blair.

Made Gordon Brown Chancellor.
Allowed "lighter touch" regulation of the city.
Allowed borrowing controls to be totally abolished creating the debt bubble that has now popped.
Invaded Iraq which has resulted in the UK becoming a terrorist target - shoes and belts off on the way into the Olympics
Passed nearly as much Union bashing legislation as John Major
Brought PFI into the whole of the NHS and education sectors and therefore mortgaged our children's futures.
Copped out on dealing with public sector pensions - so its even worse now.
Sucked up to any oligarch or Arms dealer who would give him cash when he left office.
Is the godfather of Rupert Murdoch's child and protected him when phone hacking started.
Has a wife who has really dodgy friends who bring security checks into disrepute (Carole Caplin)
Betrayed the hopes of those who voted for him in 1997 that he would bring in a more equal and fair society.

other than that he's just fine.

FioFio · 28/06/2012 14:17

I doubt he would get apid enough money to do it now Wink

headfairy · 28/06/2012 14:21

Fio I don't think he needs the money. Its power he's after. It doesn't suit his personality to be insignificant.

Want2bSupermum · 28/06/2012 14:27

TB was a great politician because many people still think he was wonderful. They don't see through the crap. What I see is a man who is a champagne socialist at best. He joined the labour party because he saw more opportunity there than being with the Torys.

We have not seen the end of TB in this country because we are still paying for the overspending during his term. I forsee that the British public will be paying for many more years. I also read in the Russian media about dodgy payments made to him around the time of the decision to invade Iraq. I don't doubt this. I also hope he thinks about Dr Kelly and his family. There are too many question marks around his death.

AmberLeaf · 28/06/2012 14:28

I can't stand him.

But I'd 'take him back' in a flash if it meant no more fucking cameron.

TalkinPeace2 · 28/06/2012 14:33

Amberleaf
Think carefully about what you just said.
Never in a million years is the return of Blair the answer to Cameron.
