German court rules that circumcision amounts to "bodily harm"

here

it also says it "contravenes "interests of the child to decide later in life on his religious beliefs".

One of the comments from the bottom: "Ancient traditions, whatever their cultural origins, which involve permanent physical harm towards children have no place in the 21st century."

I agree with this

I just wanted to post about this.
about time, I would say!

"Religious circumcisions are bodily harm and thus a crime, a German court ruled this week, in what was dubbed a precedent-setting decision."

although I am not sure if it contravenes the child's right to religious self-determination. It is perfectly possible to be an atheist who once had a religious circumcision. There are plenty of baptised atheists out there too!

It is the physical harm that disturbs me.

tbh I don't care about the religious or any other reasons (apart from the very rare cases where it is medically neccessary). the child should decide himself at an age were he fell a sensible decision about his own body.
