MrsBucketxx my sis said the same.

I think we should stop talking about it until the trial is over. There are too many guilty by press cases.

YardBroom · 30/05/2012 21:53

Who know olympia but no sane person would deliberately start a fire which kills their 6 children.

um [tentative] actually, it is presumed innocent until proven guilty.

Nothing changes whether they were guilty or innocent, it is just that UK law expects us to presume they are innocent regardless, until something is proved one way or the other. If someone accused of something actually did it, they are still guilty, just presumed innocent.

All a jury can do is decide whether or not to convict. They can't change the actual guilt.

I feel very sorry for all involved, as it is a terrible, terrible event. I really hope that the police and courts do a good job on this one. Nothing can bring those children back, but I hope the case is solved quickly and cleanly, with the right verdicts.

Mrsbucket that is my personal opinion too, hence surprised at being charged with murder rather than manslaughter Sad Sad Sad

MrsBucket I thought exactly the same.

What a terrible mess. Sad

AfternoonsAndCoffeespoons · 30/05/2012 22:05

I might be wrong, but I don't think you can actually be charged with manslaughter. I think the charge is always murder, and its gets dropped to manslaughter depending on circumstance.

Whether mothers cry or not at press conferences has no bearing on their innocence or not. Remember Lindy Chamberlin in Australia? She was jailed and was innocent, despite not displaying the 'correct' response at the trial.

And the poor mother of Madeleine was Guilty in the eyes of some MNers because she couldn't turn on the tears as required.

must've been massively let down by the system

You are having a laugh - aren't you?

So the 'system' should be providing bigger and bigger houses on demand for people who cannot adequately house the growing number of children they choose to have?

I think not!

That's not what I drag myself into work every morning to pay my taxes for.

WetAugust · 30/05/2012 22:57

For 'so desperate' read 'so stupid' and 'so selfish'.
