Read the last two paragraphs, which basically contradict the rest of the story - not asked to be an ambassador, but sent a standard form letter which I presume goes to many countries.
Major journalism fail by the Guardian, I think- it's more what I expect from the Mail, ie headline: outrage! Story: more outraged quotes. Small para at bottom: small factual sentences showing whole thing is nonsense.
