Thats terrible! I hear that unit is very, very busy and it closes alot. It seems that safe care in labour is not available to everyone in this country at the moment, let alone one to one care.
Over 700,000 women gave birth in this coutry last year and I read appalling stories of 'care' on mumsnet all the time and can't believe why we're all not making more of a fuss of this shit 'service' available (or maybe not) to us. Sad

They are closing the hospital where I had DS2. IMO it was the best one Sad.

(I had my 3 dc at different hospitals)

I really worry about the future of maternity care - my niece nearly died having her baby recently. (Sheer incompetence and shortage of trained staff)I have a dd and I am scared for her when the time comes when she wants to have children.

Im currently 33 weeks pregnant and spent the past 3 days in hospital. Yesterday there was 3 women labouring on the ward and no space on delivery. Last night I suddenly started contracting very hard and painfully every min. But they couldn't move me as no beds. I luckily stopped contracting after an hour and it's settled but I would have delivered on the ward if it hadn't.
The nhs closed our local maternity unit and I was at the next closest which is 13 miles from home. But seeing women labouring on the ward and waiting hours for beds on delivery was shocking.

My DS2 had the same problem. He actually had the cord wrapped around twice, once round his neck and once round his belly.

It was so bloody stressful, we had to fight to get anyone to do anything and then when they did it was a full-on emergency.
