The article says an indeterminate sentence with a minimum of 6 years. I thought that was different from life and given in cases where the person is thought to be a danger because they are mentally ill.

So if he convinces the psychiatrists he isn't ill any more, presumably he could be out by 2018. 6 years seems like too light a sentence to me for what he did.
