Mmm redistribution of funds, like that's ever going to happen. We all know these people are going to be dumped, out of sight out of mind like the last lot.

What gets me is that the factories are producing worthwhile products, when we have precious little manufacturing left in this country, we should be encouraging more of that, not less. Ok the employees need support but that doesn't mean the results of their work are worthless. it's not all basket-weaving.

Lots of people in the factories have spent a long time learning their craft and they will never again be in an environment where they can put their skills to good use. I expect if they get jobs at all they will be pushing mops in hospitals like a friend of mine who has brain damage, and he only got that job because his mum helped him.Sad He could only afford to live on the proceeds of that job because he still lived at home with his mum, otherwise he would have had to be subsidised by the state to survive! Anyone see the irony?

I see the irony Pixel.

People will lose the dignity of having a job that can accommodate their disabilities and provide them with things - like a salary, workmates, a place in the world - that most of us take for granted.

Communities lose employers and the spend their employees put back into the local economy.

The wider economy loses products and services - made in Britain.

And for what?

What will be saved doesn't match what will be lost.

remploy runs at loses £68million year
each employee costs £25k per annum
that money spent on a loss making venture should be reallocated to alternative models, day centre and supporting alternative projects

its too costly
its an out dated model
its not integrative
