30k - wow I wish we lived on 30k - excluding DH's bonsues (which vary wildy from month to month) we're on about 19k a year - but have 36k of debt - plus a 100k mortgage.........

oh - and I've just realised I sounded really negative about my working arrangments - not at all I LOVE my job (boosted by the fact that one of the new girls and I worked together for the first time this weekend and got on like a house on fire we're already planning our first night on the town after payday ) I just know of 3 marraiges that have broken down in the last year who had similar arrangments to us,

But as with all things (including brining up children ) there are lots of different factors which contribute to a these thigns.

In the absence of MsWong -

HTTKOY?

expatinscotland · 12/02/2006 21:36

I live in the same town as JK Rowling and Ian Rankin. Does that count for posh??!!

kittyfish · 12/02/2006 21:37

Colditz - I know how lucky I am but I am no where near the best off on this thread.

bangersandmash · 12/02/2006 21:38

ahh now I must just show off - we have a BRAND NEW Ford Fiesta..........but only because the payments were cheaper than the (2nd hand mondeo) we got before the sh*t hit the pan with the finances last year.

And DH needs a decent car for work.

harpsichordcarrier · 12/02/2006 21:39

not yet snafu but it won't be long I reckon
we are WAY off the fkn point now of course...

nulnulcat · 12/02/2006 21:39

we could all downsize and live in our cars!!

anya1 · 12/02/2006 21:40

New mum and teacher (11-16) and I have to say that I teach a lot of kids who have stay at home parents (both normally) and they are just as antisocial if not more so than the ones that have parents who work.
Yes I am going back to work fulltime, yes I will miss her everyday like many other mum BUT I will not feel guilty about going back to a job I love I am lucky in that I get a lot of time off and can reduce her time in nursery to PT during the holidays.
She will not be deprived of love and attention far from it she will be even more spoiled with it as a result.
As for members of family looking after lo both mine and his have lives of their own. They have raised their children and done a dammed good job now it is their turn to reap the rewards.
The care of a child at the end of the day is a personal choice and people using it as a political soapbox or to get better book sales just serve to annoy me.
I will do what feels right for me and I am more than happy to have lo in the nursery I have chosen for her.

jane313 · 12/02/2006 21:40

nulnulcat, all the nurseries near me take babies of 3 months

bangersandmash · 12/02/2006 21:40

PMSL Nul - can't you just imagine a 6ft bloke living in a ford Fiesta - kids would probably squeeze in the boot I guess

expatinscotland · 12/02/2006 21:41

, nulnul. 'Urban camping'.

nulnulcat · 12/02/2006 21:41

my dd has a lot of skills her same age friends of sahm dont seem to have for a start she has no problem sharing her toys and she is a lot more sociable than a lot of them

bangersandmash · 12/02/2006 21:41

perfect for those that want the outdoor experience but don't like getting their hands dirty

expatinscotland · 12/02/2006 21:42

The nursery across from our housing association flat takes 'em from 3 months. People bring 'em in at that age, too. I see a mix of flash and ordinary cars. So some of them are plebs like me, I suppose.

wheresthecoddingnecklace · 12/02/2006 21:42

this is a crap r ow

no one is oignt o give up work becasue of this thread
pointless

Cristina7 · 12/02/2006 21:42

?we could all downsize and live in our cars!!?

So at various times we have the ?I?m more loving a parent than thou?, ?I?m gentler than thou?, let?s have a ?I?ve downsized more than thou? type of argument too?

nulnulcat · 12/02/2006 21:43

get one of those roof box things they could live in that!! its like getting an extension!

expatinscotland · 12/02/2006 21:44

and you can still extended breastfeed in your car, too.

kittyfish · 12/02/2006 21:44

You could have a caravan type awning out the boot - tres swish.

bangersandmash · 12/02/2006 21:44

like a loft converstion I guess - or a trailer at the back as the 'extension' LOL.

expatinscotland · 12/02/2006 21:45

the tax credits people would never be able to find me .

nulnulcat · 12/02/2006 21:45

wish i could have stayed at home longer but if i had done then we wouldnt have even had a car to live in and i dont feel guilty about sending her to nursery full time and never have done and some prat and his book is not going to make me feel different! anyway it dont affect me as i got a girl and doesnt he only write about boys?

harpsichordcarrier · 12/02/2006 21:46

oh nulnulcat please.... don't even go there
children of SAHPs don't know how to share their toys and aren't sociable??
yes because the children of SAHPs don't have any friends to play with, of course

nulnulcat · 12/02/2006 21:46

do you think we would have to pay council tax?

bangersandmash · 12/02/2006 21:47

DS1 had the 'pleasure' (well not sure it always was TBH LOL) of me for 4yrs at home full time (he's a september baby) but he still learned to share.

Believe it or not SAHM's don't stay at HOME all day, they go out and meet other people - often with children too.............
