Probably been done to death, but holding my breath to see what the budget will bring for child benefit on Weds? Will there be a U turn?
What do you think will happen?

Ah the Mumsnet Manifesto!

Add in free Ocado deliveries for all and I am in ;)

IAmBooyhoo · 21/03/2012 11:48

boffin this is going to sound ridiculous as i always knew how unfair things were for women but seeing it written down as you have (in the opposite way) has made it glaringly obvious for some reason. i mean can you imagine ever having a cabinet with all women and 1 man? it would never be allowed and that says it all really. Sad

SanctiMoanyArse · 21/03/2012 11:51

Can we make sure those nurseries take kids with AN up until school leaving age and are met with corresponding services after 16?

Chuck in a few decent carer policies on top (because the majority ARE women and seem to also be hit - another aspect of same anti-women thing perhaps?) and it would be damned fab.

BOMtobewild · 21/03/2012 12:03

Boffin thats my favourite post of the week Grin I'd vote for you!

melika · 21/03/2012 12:09

I think to cut child benefit would bring out protest marches across the land. Why don't they reduce it per child from today, say after two children the payments get considerably less. Say the 8th child gets a fiver!

It would make it fairer to us that 'cut our cloth', so to speak.

I don't think it is fair to middle class families to cut theirs because they have paid their dues.

BoffinMum · 21/03/2012 12:10

Shall I put the juicy bits of that post on the live chat thread?

BOMtobewild · 21/03/2012 12:11

Yes boffin, do it.

BoffinMum · 21/03/2012 12:14

I have done it.

MoreBeta · 21/03/2012 12:32

Were off!

Osborne is on his feet.

MoreBeta · 21/03/2012 12:33

Adam Bolton said on Sky that Cameron has prevailed on CB and the 'cliff edge' loss of CB will be sorted out.

MoreBeta · 21/03/2012 12:37

Just running through the forecasts for GDP and unemployment at the moment. Apparently it is all going to get better.

BoffinMum · 21/03/2012 12:37

Unless you factor in childcare and commuting costs, the cliff edge thing is meaningless.

But they won't.

Bastard men.

TwllBach · 21/03/2012 12:41

I'm jumping feet first in to this thread, I have very little political/economical knowledge.

Did he just say (the man speaking in the HOC on ITV) that they support a working Britain? That's all very nice, and I agree that in theory it's vey nice to reward work, but there aren't any jobs are there. I'm clinging on to mine but I'm desperately trying to find a full time job. I live in a real area and the rise in petrol is 5p more away from meaning I can't run it, but I need it to get to work as there are no busses.

notenoughsocks · 21/03/2012 12:42

Horay, boffinmum.

As a by the by, in 1972/3 the Tories proposed to scrap the mothers' right to collect what was then family allownace and to tack it on to the (usually male) breadwinners pay packet in the form of tax credits. They changed their mind then. I hold out less hope this time round.

....................... (do you think the watching MPs practice their various serious/agreemement/consideration faces in the mirror?)

BoffinMum · 21/03/2012 12:44

At least they are helping the families of serving officers. Quite right too,

BoffinMum · 21/03/2012 12:45

Soon we'll have to get our husbands to sign countersign our loan agreements and mortgages once again.

Mark my words. Mine already had to countersign DC4's nursery form wrt finances.

SparkleRainbow · 21/03/2012 12:47

Ok waht is the news...I am too scared to watch/listen and then find out how much worse off we are going to be.

BoffinMum · 21/03/2012 12:47

Nothing yet - they are doing the business etc first.

BOMtobewild · 21/03/2012 12:49

It's all just silliness. I live with my partner, he is not my DD's father. We split bills equally and he doesn't support her. Should I lose my £80 a month because he is on a higher tax band?
Maybe I should just marry him and quite my job althoghter. He could counter sign all my financial aggrements and I could bake cakes.

Problem is, if I ever needed to leave him - I wouldn't be able to class his income as my own then, would I? And he still wouldn't be supporting my DD.

Wankers.

notenoughsocks · 21/03/2012 12:52

Have just realised, that if there is a partial U-turn, Osborne will look up like he has just handed out a Christmas pressie to a grateful child and there is likely to be shots of the front bench looking pleased at their government's genoristy.

Completley ignoring the fact that it was they who removed the universal benefit in the first place.

Aaagghhhh.

SparkleRainbow · 21/03/2012 12:54

Have gone on line to listen but still tempted to put my fingers in my ears....

LilRedWG · 21/03/2012 13:24
